Just out running pre-Christmas errands this morning, and saw a very nice black S4+ south on 97, making a u-turn at Knott Road near my house. This is the first one I've seen in the area, and of course I'm driving the 'other' car due to the road conditions. And missed the opportunity to visit as you rolled off north again. Are you on this list?
I guess I need to update my official OC address too, so I can show up on the map. Thought I took care of that when I updated the Road Help list. [scratches head...]
My brother has my old '82 5 speed in Bend. Not sure if he ever drives it though, as he is not mechanically minded and getting ANYTHING done on this car in Bend has been very difficult for him. This is the car that I changed the unibody on. It was in bad black metallic when I sold it to him. I think he had it resprayed in non metallic black, which I suspect has also gone bad. Interior was a nice tan set out of an S4.

Let him know there are others in the area. have hammer will travel and all, if he needs some help/support with making it serviceable again. Too many cars go off to rot in people's garages/yards/barns.
I should have garage cabinets installed sometime before the spring driving season begins. Then I should be able to find more than just the basic tools and toys. I've been investing some holiday play time in getting some basic infrastructure stuff taken care of, like getting the compressor into its sound-proofed enclosure/cabinet, connected to the airlines installed in the walls an ceiling. Potential is that it will be more than barely cybalized by the time the weather warms up again.
The big problem he has is that, when it is cold (it sometimes is cold in Bend), the clutch won't quite release enough for him to get it it shift. I think the solution is a slight modification the the master cylinder to give it a little more travel as the master has been replaced a few times and I think there is a known issue with replacement masters on earlier cars. However such a solution is way beyond what he could do, although it is not a big task for someone who knows what they are doing.
Previously the car was down for six months or so when it needed the bearing that the cooling fan rides on. His mechanic insisted on ordering the part for Automotive Atlanta. Naturally they did not have it, and had to claimed to order it from Germany, but it never arrived. I think I eventually got pissed and ordered him one from Mark myself.
GTG season will start in the spring after Power Plant Outage Season. Here that coincides nicely with 'enough rain to wash the cinders off the roads' season. By that time I should have garage cabs and my shop stuff and the rest of the tools unpacked. No time for that since we moved in late June.

I alerted clients last last year that I was winding down and would seriously only take 1000 hours of consulting this year. Each of the major accounts came up with more than 1000 hrs for me for 2014. Trying to crank it to even less for 2015, two came forward with full-year retainers. This will be a less-than-1000 hrs year, 2016 and beyond will be no more than 500hrs/yr absolute max. First-class seats, no less than 4-star hotels, jacking rates up 15%/yr. Hoping something will give soon. Obviously the market is still way too elastic.

ah the problems of the seasoned vets! My CA partner informed me that he was retiring at the end of this year. After all, he is 70, in great health, with a great wife and many hobbies. Well I put my best pretty please out there, and after some cajoling, he will remain as "of counsel" to the firm, with a 20 hr/mos committment (we'll see how that goes - I see that figure as a starting point)
Lesson? It's the ***** to be good Dr. Bob
Dr. Bob.....i often travel through Bend on my way to our winter "cabin" in the Palm Springs area however its in the Jeep GC at that time of year..usually March. If there were a summertime GTG however i would gladly head down in my Murf 928.

That seems like a relatively large number for a city the size of Bend. The people there must have very good taste. Seeing how they're also the home to a pair of aviation's most beautiful aircraft, the Epic E1000 and Columbia 400 (pre-Cessna purchase), I'm not at all surprised.
