Three Wheelin'
My car had this setup when I picked it up, sounded great at idle and full throttle, but 2500 miles of highway drone during our cross country drive home convinced me to re-install the pumpkin. When I'm back on the road I'll probably take a shot at a pumpkinectomy to try and find a happy medium.

Well, it wasn't exactly plug and play, as jank as it is.
The two ends of the 18" straights didn't align by themselves.
I used a Jack stand under each pipe for support, with a long bar inserted to make everyone get along.
Notice the ripples in the pics..., a little bit of tweeking was involved.
....but this is just to show that a nice modded 85 RMB can be done relatively easy.
Oh, I did this Without removing the exhaust, just hackered off the pumpkin.

I said that^^ to say this.....
My friendly neighbor came over after I got home tonight, and wanted me to just take him up the road for a romp in the 928, I first declined, but, you know how it is, ...
So we go....
Hell, there's a round about a couple miles away...
DRIFTIN' BABY!, hell ya, went around twice, then at the end of my road, a "T" intersection, I pull close to the right, pause...
I crank the wheel left, mashed on it, and did a 360, took off in a straight line through my own tire smoke.
That was a mile and a half from my house, ....pulled in the driveway...
Wifey says, "yeah, I heard ya".

On an 85, I think you could do a y-pipe
http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/Ypipe.php
Into a borla exhaust system

Not the cheapest, but bolt on.

A lot of variables in the samples- being in a garage will change the sound picked up by the recording device, differences between cell phone and other mics, etc.
