Interior paint. Color code/name?
I'm looking at options for correcting the dash cracks in my '83 car so I'm looking into whether I can get the correct shade of paint for it. Is there a way I can find out what the specific color code is for my brown interior?
The sticker in the doorjamb looks as though it's only talking about the exterior.
Any help, much appreciated.

I doubt that there would be any paint color code, since there is no paint.
However, there are interior/leather/upholstery companies that make dyes and coatings (that are functionally equivalent to paint). They do offer "standard" colors (e.g., Chevrolet Gray by whatever GM called it). There is no way that they can have every Porsche interior color, as that would be hundreds, if not thousands, of custom colors.
The best way is to find such a company and send them a small sample of your color that you want. For example, if you want to match the seats, go underneath and cut a small piece of the upholstery. They can mix a custom dye/coating that will match your sample. But remember that materials fade - your unfaded sample might not match the areas of the seat that are exposed to the sun.

Try JoAnn at ColorPlus for the 'dye' (actually paint) to match yours. There is probably - as Wally stated - an easily accessible small piece of leather on the underneath side of the rear seat - lower section. This will not have faded, so will essentially be the original color. JoAnn needs a 1" square piece of this to match the color with the leather paint (Porsche used such paint on the leather originally to get the color).
Color Plus is: www.colorplus.com
No association except a very satisfied customer over nearly 10 years and several sets of Porsche and MB seats.

At that time brown was just brown. There wasn't any added name given to it. If manufacturer don't know what '83 MY brown looks like only option is to have them match a sample.

If you do send a colour sample from an unexposed area, your newly dyed area will not match the other exposed areas. IMHO the best approach is to plan on a light redying of all leather (you can use a diluted wash coat simply wiped on cleaned leather) to give a more uniform match; it is a little like a paint blend on external paint. Or you can send a sample of faded leather and match that...

I too have used products from Colorplus and have been very pleased with them. I bought color to sample dye to match the interior on my Etype and used it to paint a black object tan. The color was dead on. I did use a spray gun. You will also see that Colorplus has some products for filling cracks. I haven't used them but a general internet search should come up with some testimonials.
Since you are in LA, a local source that you might want to check out is World Upholstery.

Interesting, thanks for posting that. Just as Vilhuer said, it's just called 'brown'.

Seems like there ought to be somewhere on the car, on the data plates or stickers, that says some kind of code for the interior color. Someone in the 964 Forum posted his data plate with the designation of "MT" for what looks like a light gray interior. Does the 928 have such a designation anyplace?

At the very least one ought to be able to contact the Factory and request the information about exactly what interior was put into a particular 928. Anyone have any thoughts about that? I sent an email to an address I found online somewhere and tried that, but got no response.

The factory can also tell you.

Yes, factory interior code is on the option sticker on the rear deck (or in the warranty booklet) Then it's a matter of decoding the interior code.
Here's the interior code (QT, which I assume is linen, as that's what in the car...) on Anderson's new GT:

Thanks for the replies guys.
Where is this sticker? I can't find it on my car (though I did find a cool light near the edge of the hatch). In the warranty book there is a mention of interior code but frustratingly, it's not filled in!
Neat little light tucked into the corner here. Works too!
