Frozen 928 Engine

Frozen 928 Engine
Hi guys, will appreciate your help with this one:
A buddy of mine has a 1986 928S with 24K original kms (row car), that was parked about 15 years ago due to a problem with the local DMV. It sat forgotten for a few years and then was sent to a guy who was supposed to get the car running again.
Further neglect resulted in the car being parked out in the open with the intake manifold removed, and what had to happen, happened...a few cylinders full of water and a frozen engine.
Now my buddy REALLY wants to fix this car since it was given to his wife for her 18th birthday and he wants to get it fixed for the 50th birthday.
Can someone recommend a good shop either near Miami, FL or in southern Texas that can tackle what will probably be a substantial engine rebuilt?
Here are some pictures for your visual delight.
This is a repost, since I originally posted in the wrong forum
Thanks
Henry

that's really ugly!
pull the motor, and go through it. some things might be salvageable.
nice late model euro! just buy a 5 liter bottom end and stick it under the euro heads and cams.
get the heads cleaned up.. basic valve job.
looks like it needs a few missing parts of the intake too. those parts shouldn't be too hard to find. (plenum and a throttle body).
good luck with that one! hope she doesn't turn 50 for a few years!

Have you talked to www.928docs.com (Sean)?
Thanks

Sean is in Texas somewhere. Fort Worth?
Seriously, though, your best bet is a complete new motor assembly with a warranty. 928 International has a 1/2 off sale thorough year end or christmas or something. I doubt Mark has a '86 ROW motor to drop in there, but should have plenty of 4.7 L Jet motors.

Good move - Sean knows these cars very well. Given the rarity of proper 928 expertise, even if it costs a bit to ship the car to him, you'll come out way ahead on the total repair cost by having him do the work versus someone who's learning about 928s as they go.
He'll be able to give you a good assessment of what it actually needs to be fixed up, and the range of options from complete strip-down and repair, to replacement engine.
Whether the car can be kept numbers-matching likely won't be known until the heads come off and the inside of the block can be assessed to see how deep the corrosion goes.
An admirable project and a good reason for the restoration!

Fixing it up for her 50th is smart. Your buddy will have 4 or 5 years to enjoy it while he is waiting for the big event to spring it on her, assuming it doesn't take that long to get it running.

Save the RoWs
Problem with DMV, I'm guessing "ZZZ" in the VIN?
Given the impetus for the restoration- sentimental-- I say rebuild what's there if it can be rebuilt, and replace only what's broke/unsalvageable. Might not be the quickest route, but preserves the car. And....I'm not sure what the more expeditious option would be as an alternative engine that is do-able, but it probably wouldn't drive the same! At least with Porsche alternatives. Got to admit, that Dinsdale reference on the other thread.....crate ZZ block, used trans, paint interior and done.....well, electrics....
Might call to see whether they know when this car was flatlined:

Better get on the stick though, clock's tickin' given the work to-do there...
Hope there aren't storage fees...

Got your e-mail and a few phone calls telling me about this one. I'll get back with you via e-mail tomorrow and I'll let ya know my thoughts on it. If it were an '85/86 US I'd say scrap the engine and buy a used one, since this is a Euro it is worth saving.

Someone gave their daughter a 928 for her 18th birthday..?!? ...Wow...
Nice car. How is the interior? Did it stay all sealed up, and dry, and intact?
Was there a specific reason for why the engine was disassembled like that..?
