..am I reading between the lines here?
Not that I'm suggesting that it will be a parts car, but there's some considerable insurance in the sum of all parts of this car if one 'with resources' had to recoup the sale price.
That engine appeared to be totally in tact - nothing removed - as though it was running fine when parked. My guess is that it'll start right up with a bit of proper prep.

I learned a lot taking my first GT through its midlife crisis, and some more from working on Hebert's '91, time to bring this car through its midlife crisis.

$100 is the bid increment, winner looks like that wanted it enough to "bid to win", which means it might have taken a couple thousand more to take it away.
I'm looking forward to what the new owner does with it, providing their bones aren't scattered in the desert.

Wow, $1600 more than I paid for my very clean, running and driving 89 GT with 134k in June 2013. Reaffirms that I practically stole my car. It was also on ebay, but didn't meet the $15k reserve. I was able to buy it for $12k.

I wasn't even close. Congrats, enjoy the process.
I'd like to say you got a bargain. I'd like to, but I can't. The good news is that I know where and how to market my GT when it's time. Or, just leave it in the garage and let the prices continue to climb. Seems like the price on the GT is pretty good, except for that red one that calls to me.

That is an amazing price for an amazing car. Call me crazy, but I really believe that these cars are at the bottom of the depreciation curve. If so, then you can't pay too much for one, you just defer the return on the appreciation (if you're in it for the appreciation, in which case you're failing investing 101....).
But then again, a grand or two either way is rounding error in total operating costs. I'm just excited to work on this beastie.
