Default revolutionary wheelchair maker drives 928

was just watching the news and some guy who has invented a special wheelchair for the disabled drives a 928 (78-86). It didn't say anything about the car itself, but the wheelchair is awesome. It can go up and down stairs and through grass.......costs $29,000 and you need special training to operate it, but still badass if you're disabled.

Dean Kamen is they guy. I'm curious about the negative views of the Segway. How is it any more/less usefull than say a scooter/moped? I've seen a few around Road America used by teams. Looks pretty darn useful to me. Saw one guy hit a trailor and fly off it, he was ok so it was funny.

He doesn't use the 928 much - I believe he has a small helicopter he takes to work, he has a steam engine in his basement, and runs a tech academy for gifted kids. One of his major projects is to promote science amongst children to rise their awareness of famous scientists to the same level as sport and pop stars (would make a pleasent change to see someone actually deserve the credit they get). And he obviously has tons of money (made from all kinds of weird and wonderful inventions).

This planet needs many more Dean Kamens. IMHO.

Yup, I saw a special report on CNBC( “Business Center”)about a year ago when his wheel chair made the news. Ron Insana took a personal tour of his home and work area. It's HUGE(something like 50 acres). Well when they got to the garage area, there it was. A mint moss green 928S next to a Hummer(he also has a Yet and a helicopter pad). Ron Insana pointed out the "Porsche" in wonder. Dean Kamen said that he loves driving it, and it's his baby!

He could afford ANY car in the word and he picks the Porsche 928. He IS a smart man after all. My kind of guy.

Dean Kamens is quite a guy! He gets two thumbs up from me.

"useless segway" I think not, priced out of the reach of the common person? Yes! But just watch, he will spin off other products using some of the same technologies that should prove invaluable in the daily lives of many. I haven't seen the wheel chair, but who knows, he may have already started.

I saw just a little bit of it as well, just enough to see the 928 and the wheelchair (wow!). I hear Kamen's company has more than a couple, *ahem* "government" connections (you may have noticed Bush on his gift Segway, which he promptly fell off).
