Been lurking for a few weeks now and have read and reread the New Visitor post (s) and I honestly learn something new almost every time. I havent been through the whole 2080 pages of the 928 forum, but have gone back a lot of pages. I have however, gone through every page (553! As of this post-date) of the Official random 928 Picture Thread!
Full disclosure, Im an Audi guy and have been for a while, starting with a 4000s, then a 200 turbo, through a few A6s to what I have now, a 2003 A4 that my wife drives and a 2003 A8L that I drive. (not a totally bad thing I guess, were all one happy family under the VAG umbrella ??) Im fully aware of the maintenance requirements of keeping an older vehicle safe and road-worthy.
Like most of you on this forum, Ive lusted after the 928 for many years and recently had a deal come up that I simply could not refuse. I picked up a 1991 928 S4, guards red. It currently has 64,414 miles (originally a US vehicle - ~ 103k kms ps I found out how to change the reading to metric I dont think the PO ever read the manual ).
I have a good Indy shop and weve installed the P-Klamp, and the PO has records of recent fuel line replacements and most everything else looks current. Ive RTFM and am quite honestly looking forward to spending time driving and getting use to a Porsche and sports car again (I had a 1973 MGB many, many moons ago )
From what I have read, this is a great forum (I frequent a similar forum on Quattroworld and they seem to be a similar bunch of extremely reasonable folks) with some very deep talent and experience. I need to thank everyone for posting all the posts they have as they have been invaluable to me in helping make my initial buy decision as well as identifying potential areas of issue / concern / maintenance as I grow older with the car.
Im an old fart, I live in Ottawa, Canada, have an extremely supportive wife ("why do we need three cars again"
?), two sons (ages 12 in grade 8; and 23 last year at Carleton University Honours Linguistics the Warner Brothers) and a mini golden-doodle.
And well I must add that Im feeling a little inadequate due to the most recent new member postings friggin rocket scientists, can probably MacGyver a full working engine out of popsicle sticks and a paperclip Im happy if I can remember which side my gas tank fills on ! So it would appear that Ill be getting more out of the forum than contributing, but hopefully the BT is up to it!
You are a step ahead of most in that you remembered to post pictures as part of your intro. Your next purchase needs to be a jump post cover as I notice from picture #2 yours seems to have gone missing. Not so important to protect the jump post as it is to protect the 14 pin plug that lives there.
You don't need to feel inadequate because you aren't a rocket scientist or motorcycle racer or something like that. By reading the Owner's Manual and the "New Visitor" sticky you have shown a willingness to admit that you have stuff to learn. That isn't always the case with new guys here.
Anything you need to do to the car can be found on here. If you can't find it, ask & someone will help you work through it.
Roger (928s R Us) has the jump post cap & cover. Very reasonably priced too. And he's a hell of a nice guy to deal with. It's pretty safe to say that you will be talking with him some in the future (at least if you're smart).

A note about the jump post cover. The jump post (threaded ****) is also missing. The plastic cover protects mostly from water intrusion. The separate **** covers a bare 14 volts. Kinda small stuff, but cheap parts that do have a reason for being there. Welcome, nice purchase.
