Sunroofs are problematic in all cars including our sharks..... I've owned many, many cars with sunroofs over the last 40 years and all of them had problems sooner or later..... Best thing to do is keep it closed and not use it. The effort and expense to keep fixing it to me is not worth it.

I have had a very different experience. The effort has been minimal, and the expense has been a couple of squirts of white lithium grease and new switches from Paul Champagne.

The problems come from two areas: the mechanism itself and the switch.

The mechanism is very easy to clean, a little harder to align. There is a write-up here that I have followed on both of my cars, and both sunroofs work flawlessly.

The switch: I had problems with all of my switches (including windows), so I bought the Paul Champagne replacements. They've also worked flawlessly.

Agree, it not that difficult. Mine is working great after it was serviced. There is also a very good write up on repairing your sunroof with pics on Pelican. This is the one I used.

Turn on ignition til all the lights are on, press the switch, if the voltmeter doesn't move then its the switch, a new switch is not expensive or for fun you can repair it.

I had to take my sunroof completely apart to clean and align. The motor was too weak to seat the roof without me pushing up on the bottom while in motion.

I had the brushes replaced on the motor and now it works fine. But aligning it properly does take some time.

Remember to use locktite on all the aligning screws, it is imperative to keep the roof aligned after repeated uses.

I also cleaned all the center switches, they were pretty cruddy after 30 years. This helped a bit.

Follow the tutorial and you will do fine. I fixed the roof using the guide after an experienced body man gave up on it.

Happily, there was no charge for the failed effort....

Hi Rod. Probably late, but I'm checking my sunroof now. This should be the right link:
