I have read through a lot of threads with a ton of technical specs, especially for you guys who track your cars. But what is the best motor oil for a 928 that's a regular driver? Synthetic vs old school 20/50?

On a serious note, please read through these threads, this has been covered more than all other topics combined.
These threads are from just the past 12 months, and not every oil thread. I tried to pick out the best ones:

Oh boy !
At least a 15-50. If in a region like the Desert Southwest, you may want a 20-50.
You'll want zinc (zddp) in it. As an example Mobil 1 15-50 syn has 1200-1400ppm. I add a just a touch more with a concentrate added to each oil on change - has made a difference.
You will get a multitude of recommendations, or none, as many are getting tired of the turmoil with this matter.
Best to read, try/test, find what works for you.

Very mixed opinions on that - A lot depends on the local climate during the months you actually drive the car... we have no idea where you are: Iceland? Australian Outback?
Its all been said before - just read the history

Simple answer is any motor oil of appropriate viscosity for your expected ambient temperature that has more that about 1000-1100 ppm of zinc and of phosphorus. There is a viscosity chart in the owners manual that will give you the necessary info.
