I have the RMB - sounded pretty damn good!
I just installed the X-Pipe. Holy cow, what a sound! I love it!!!
Not sure if the neighbors do.

Ken, do you have small resonators and no cats? The X sounds really good with no cats with big resonators on my 86.5. You could try to find some used ones or put the rear muffler back on if it's too loud.

I wouldn't ride with just the RMB for very long. It's an assault on the ears. I know many folks are enamored with the sound, but I think it's unnecessary.
In my more rebellious youth, I had cars with, um, more prominent exhaust notes. It was just one more big red flag to wave in front of the leo's as I drove by. I liked small-bore cars that needed RPM's to make horsepower, and there was no doubt at all when an engine was on song and throttles open. Fast-forward to a little later in life. Sports coupes with quiet exhaust replaced the many pure sports cars with more free-breathing exhaust. Exhaust turbines softened the sound a lot too. I spent a lot less time visiting judges. The 928, with great performance and quiet exhaust note, is a car I can actually drive a lot faster than all but a couple previous rides. We know judges socially now. And yes, there are a few certain times, ripping through the hills, when I do miss the sweet mechanical sounds of cam chains and big throttles right behind my head, bobbling exhaust as the power is modulated at 6k RPM's. Just not enough to cause the resonator to come off.
A 928 owner was over for a workday on his GT with RMB, and we took mine to get some parts for his. He was shocked at how quiet the car is. Having the quiet exhaust allows you to identify and fix al those little squeaks and rattles, mumbles and moans that would otherwise be masked by the load tailpipes.

When I had a 90GT, small resonators there was no such thing and an X-pipe. But I did buy some scrap yard cats and gut them. Sounded great with RMB, but way too loud. Put rear muffler back on and the tone was the same, just a bit quieter. The sound going up through the gears would make the hair on the back of my neck stand up it sounded so good.

i had a Tom Cloutier "Powerbroker" exhaust installed on my old 928.
after it was installed and i first took it out on the highway and punched it, it scared me in the way a caveman might have been scared of a clap of thunder. "WTF?!?!?!?

Sound inside the car is often NOTHING like the sound from behind the car, which can be MUCH louder.
If you like the sound, and you aren't getting stopped by the police, no neighbors in the yard with pitchforks and torches, you are all good.
My own preference is some kind of muffler near the tailpipe, otherwise to me exhaust sounds like a tractor.
