928 gets respect at Macan unveiling last night
Posted this on the Macan forum as well, but thought I'd include it here (with a little more detail) for its 928 content.
Went to a Macan unveiling party last night. This was an interesting unveiling in that 1) PCNA chose to do it at a private residence instead of a dealership, and 2) there was no PCA involvement at all. Really gave the unveiling a much different feel then ones that I've been to in the past. It was a great party.
I wanted to show up in a 928 to this party, but my S4 still has primered Ott Flares so I didn't think it would be up to snuff. I wanted to drive a bone stock 928 of some type, and shouted out to my local PacNW 928 brothers for a loaner. Several offered up their sharks so I could properly represent, but I chose Rob Fosset's Prussian Blue '85S, just because it looks so damn good and is entirely stock (except suspension).
GPS got me to the party, and I really didn't know what to expect. I turned into the driveway and was met by a greeter that confirmed I was there for the Porsche Party. I was instructed to continue down the driveway where a valet would take the car and park it. I headed down the driveway and halfway between the street and the house was a circular turn around where valets were waiting. I pulled up to the parking valet (turns out they were parking guests' cars off site), got out and the valet jumped in. The host (homeowner) just happened to be walking up the driveway, and instructed the valet to bring the 928 to the house and park it in front of his home with the rest of the Porsches that were on display. Too Cool!
There, the 928 joined the other select Porsche's on display: A brand new 991 Turbo, Two Panameras (one was a hybrid), Cayenne, 911C4S Cab (maybe anniversary based on its blue color?) , 930, and a 993 Turbo (w/996 wheels).
Of course, its not a real party until the CGT arrives:
Guess what's under the sheet?
This is the only shot I got of the entire car (sheet was just removed), the rest of the evening all the doors were open and people were gettting in and out:
A couple of the details:
Monster Intercoolers for the Twin Turbo V6:
Air intake runs from the headlight ports, through the hood, down into the airboxes:
A serpentine belt that gives the 928 TB a run for its money:
The "controversial" Macan CF "blades" that run above the rocker panel (and yes that is the garage floor you are seeing - absolutely surgically clean).
Buttons, buttons, and more buttons:
Roomy back seat, but not Panamera roomy:
I thought this was a rear strut brace at first, until it's function was demonstrated. It's a movable "fence" (moves fore and aft, or can be removed entirely) , to hold groceries up against the rear seat back to keep items from moving around under hard acceleration.
The ever lovely, and highly informative PCNA rep showing me the inner workings of the Macan (the english accent was a show stopper):
Of course, no party is complete without a parting gift - mondo swag bag:
The homeowner/host was very gracious. His home took two years to build, and he stated that the builders were still there earlier in the day finishing up. It was amazing. I want to respect the host's privacy so I won't post pics of his home, but it was a wonder to behold. The decor was what I would call Asian/Industrial. None of the doors had hinges, they were all sliders. And I'm not talking pocket doors, the doors hung off huge roller tracks above the header outside the rooms. Very clean, minimalist design with lots of exposed beams, etc. (Swag bag pics are taken in my house, not the party house).
Here's the view off his back yard:

I suppose it takes for ever to get these things launched in the third world!
Seems quite a while since the Macan was launched over here- friend of mine ordered one- prefer the Cayennes though.

Nice. I really like the Macan... much better than the Cayenne, IMO. The tail lights look much better.

Couple more exterior shots for Nicole:
View out the front door with giant cement block walkway - watch your step!
Outside lounge with fire place - that thing really cranks out the heat.
There's a design element to this lounge area. If you look at the pic of the front of the home, you'll see a glass enclosed breezeway to the right of the front door, where you can actually see through the house to the water behind the home. The lounge area is behind this breezeway in the backyard. Notice how it's sunken and all the furniture is low profile so as to not clutter the view of the water from the front of the home. Having the glass breezeway also prevents the house from blocking sunlight to this area, the sun shines through the home to keep this area lit.
