I was discriminated because I am an American Citizen.

Usually I would say that there is more sarcasm in that sentence than **** in a Playboy, but after 2009, I'm not so sure about that anymore.

I'm going to have to deal with that CARB crap next time I get smogged.

Question for the group:

Can anyone provide a good copy/image of what a CARB stamp/sticker looks like? Is it something I can have an engraving shop make and weld or glue on, to keep the smog shop bozos satisfied?

See post #8 for a shot of the EO #'s on my CARB-approved Magnaflow cats.

^^^^ Can you post or PM me a clearer photo that I can take to an engraver? I can't read the small numbers.

Guys, what do you think? Any chance of my "scheme" working if I have this engraved into a metal plaque and attached to the cats?

Yet nobody in that state cares one bit about the hundreds of ships that line the coast every day spewing the most God awful filth into the air. You can park every car in the state of California and that will not put a dent in the overall pollution compared to those ships.

Keep going after the little man.

Mongo doesn't care, but this might be the first thread I should move straight to P&C from the 928 room.

Nah, I'll let Gretch do that if he decides to read this thread......

It's only a matter of time before one of our non paying members gets his vagina hurt and reports it, then you will have to move it anyway so no one has hurty feelers. I suppose Gretch will laugh for a couple hours and then move it. Better leave it up to him then

I doubt that the possible criminal penalties if you're caught makes your scheme worthwhile on a risk-adjusted basis. Sure, you might not get caught. But if you are caught, don't expect to get off with just a wrist slap, cause it won't happen. What California prosecutor wouldn't be willing to make his or her career by throwing the book at someone willing to risk the environment by committing fraud?

I would have to say I have no problem with what anyone says on here in this thread. Any non-member who gets butt hurt because I am bashing his favorite state should pay the membership fee so I can run riot on him in the P&C forum. Since that most likely will not happen since the majority of users do not own a Prius and sip wheatgrass to be regular, this thread will continue to present clear evidence of how ludicrous smog laws are over here.

And, right now, a non-serialed catalytic converter is worse than capital murder in *** end of the USA called California.

Are you saying the new OEM cat I still have in the 928intl box is worthless, other than recycling?

Mine was tested today and failed but tomorrow it will pass I am hoping. I have a guy, lol.........new rules this year I read somewhere. What I just read in this thread is appalling.

There are tens of thousands of cars entering from the border each week/month with no regard for any emission control.

Guys, this regime out here is serious about this Cat business. Two years ago I had my Miata tested with a federal cat I had used a few times before and the emissions were so minimal it was like a new car. This time, however the tech comes in with a good news/bad news look on his face. Emissions passed with flying colors, functional test failed due to a suspected non-compliant cat. The now mandated serial number was turned up toward the bottom of the chassis, and what he could read told him it was a 49 state cat. I was incredulous and he was apologetic but told me I get a free retest once the car had a CARB compliant cat installed. That was the most expensive smog I have ever had. The worst part is the f'ing CARB compliant cats cost 3 to 4 times as much as the federal cats. No one has yet to give me a credible explanation as to why.

Oh, come on. It's going to be some $15/hour doofus at a smog shop. Most have never even seen a Porsche exhaust system. Even if someone knew it was fake, what are they going to do other than fail the smog test? All I do is say "hmm... odd... was like that when I bought the car." You really think some DA is going to take this on? I think you have a poor understanding of the California legal system. And, "risk the environment"????? If it passes the sniffer, exactly what would that risk be????

I'm just wondering if the number has to be actually stamped into the metal. For that matter, maybe I could order a set of sheet metal stamps from eBay and stamp it in. From what Bill 51 says, sounds like a ser. # is needed too.

Personally, I'm starting to like this idea.

[Note to all manner of California Law Enforcement: The above comments are the delusional ramblings of a drug and alcohol-induced mind and were posted under coercion. In no way, manner, shape, or form would I ever knowingly infringe upon any part of our fine set of rules, laws, and/or regulations]

Cuda, the serial number is stamped or engraved into the metal outer casing. It is not a strip of metal with a serial number tacked onto the cat. See Rob's picture in his post. I am not sure your idea will have the desired result.

Edit: I reread your post and You have thoughts of stamping a s/n on your cat. You would need to check the serial number information connected with the manufacturer of your cat. Just stamping some random # on ther won't do it.

I agree, this is above my pay grade to make such a decision. I better leave it up to the Grand Poobah....

The same reason why a MAF for a 355 Ferrari costs three times as much as a similar year BMW....both with the same Bosch part number.

Because they can.

Ok, honest answer.... just a guess.... How much does it cost to have anything California approved? I have a rough idea, and it's insane. Those costs must be passed onto the consumer.

I'm very surprised the feds have not "adopted" the California code and forced it upon everyone nation wide. They just have to threaten to withhold highway funding and everyone will line up like good little citizens.

The majority will not complain since they drive "newer" cars that easily pass smog.

Years ago a friend of mine stuffed a bunch of huge sponges into the tailpipe of his 78 Suburban (back when they tested everything here) and somehow the damn thing passed. On the way home he had fun blowing them out.
