My trip west from dayton to LA

If you have time the Titan missile site just south of Tuscon is a unique relic of the cold war. Yuma? you must be kidding. OTOH I forget where the painted desert is, but 8 was a once per lifetime thing for me.

Yuma is a hotbed of activity these days. I think even lunch is available there now. Go for it!
The drive across 8 to SD is similarly thrilling and scenic, in a bland desert-scape sort of way. You'll cruise just north of the border megalopolis of Calexico, middle gateway to the north states of Mexico and the eastern gulf coast riviera cities further south. Civilization (such as it is) on the highway starts some 40 miles east of San Diego, and continues pretty much unbroken as you turn north in SD and wind your way to Los Angeles. The only real break in the ride north happens at Camp Pendleton at the southern corner of Orange County. Then it's elbow-to-elbow the rest of your trip north into the south bay area and your new home.
[obviously not taken from the Southern California Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Guide]

I sent Jake THREE separate pet hotel options. One was RIGHT across the street from the Dog Beach in PB (Pacific Beach). Now that may smell as much like Dog Urine as it does human Urine (After all, PEEB).... but hey.
LOL.
Jake - Like I said - at this point you are looking at doing SD to LA at 5-7pm.
Seriously?

HA! Made it at 6pm local. Ya, Baptism of FIRE 405 at 5pm... but it was not that bad really. I'm sure its worse farther north.
car did fantastic on this trip. and of course i hit a dip in the road right outside the base..... Carls protection plates worked like champs!, and even one LCA bolt had some asphalt on it. now i have some front end creaks... no big deal. once all our stuff arrives on monday, i can get the garage set up next week and get her in the air for cleaning and checks.
Brendan did a great job of looking up local pet friendly stuff, it just sucks that all the hotels want 50 to 75 bucks PER PET PER NIGHT! so we decided to just head north.
