Default Feeler: Manual transmission with LSD from a 1988 S4

Just curious what the going rate would be for a 5 speed manual transmission with LSD removed from a 1988 928S4 with 130,000 miles?

Probably $3,000 is tops maybe bit less as private party sale (no warranty) no recourse. Best way to KNOW is put it up on E-bay and let the buyers bid !!

NP. I bought mine from a junk yard for $1500 a couple of years ago. with LSD. It was out of a low mileage S4. but it was a great deal. im thinking 2k is a good price for box. otherwise, rebuilding the old ones cost about $2k.

Mark you got a very good deal but that was then... now 2K is probably not going to buy one or come close to rebuilding one either.

Possibly over $1K for new syncro rings alone. Good late MY manual boxes are worth their weight in gold nowdays.

And are going to get more and more valuable....

The fact that the shift centering spring and the main input bearing are no longer available makes used boxes very desirable.....although at 130,000 miles those two pieces are a crap shoot, at best.

Expecting to be able to put a used transmission, with 130,000 miles on it, directly into a vehicle without rebuilding it is a bit naïve...considering the limited slip is 30,000 miles past its life expectancy....

Is there an easy way to check those parts (shift centering spring and the main input bearing) ?

If its out and never rebuilt at those miles, or KM, it needs a rebuild before going into a car.

My 79 trans was rebuilt several years ago. Shifts great. No syncro issues. Just need to warm up before using 2nd gear. Just wondering if a late model trans mounts up into a 79 OB for future ref.

Are there early trans NLA parts like mentioned above in the later trans?

Just building a knowledge base for the future.
