Default Driver's side shelf delete?

Has anyone done this and felt good about it?
I took the shelf out recently to replace the clutch master and I really like the leg room I get (I also have size 14 feet).

I've done some other (hopefully tasteful) aftermarket changes anyway, so the car is not a pristine stock look to begin with.

If I do this I would delete the metal brackets that held the shelf and probably replace the pedal covers.

My '81 did not come with one, and I added it. There was much more room without installed. Mine is an auto, and only size 12 foot. The brackets are only held (console side) with 1 bolt behind side panel.

I deleted the shelf and the 2 mounting brackets. I have a knee bolster from a gt i am parting out and will see if I can retrofit it.

I miss it personally; my 84 and 86.5 had it, but not my current 78. Maybe I'll ditch this one and get a later model for the shelf

note - just seeing if Rick, Jim or Kevin are paying attention

Different strokes for different folks . . . I removed the GTS knee pad and installed a shelf in its place. Of course in my case, when I did the 3 gauge panel in the ashtray location I needed the shelf to have a place for the re-located cig. lighter.

Its vestigial.. from when Porsche made proper drivers' cars.

PS - OP, you should buy a new rubber bit for your brake pedal. They're cheap, and one of only a very few places on the car that actually say "928"

I'm in the market for both shelves... PO said they came with the car, and now I can't get ahold of him. When I have talked to him he says he will find them for me. It's been almost 2 years...

I liked mine, kept my wallet and other essentials in them but removed them anyway.
They aren't very heavy and are very functional. shoe size 13.
