Man, I hate to pile on, but Rob could you please post a pic of your r134 sticker from your GTS? Also, could you please confirm the part number on that spare tire sticker--it looks like 911.701.127.04. I've never seen that sticker; it'd be the perfect compliment to Jerry's aftermarket cover. First, so I don't forget, I was at 928Intl today and had Mark pull out his decal collection- he literally has 50 brand new 1995 edition paired vehicle emission control and VEC bar code sticker sets- probably enough for every U.S. '95 GTS still on the road...

Here's the r134a sticker, I think the P/N is 928 701 141 10 (the P/N is unknown in PET....)

And here is a picture of one, or most of one, I took off a broken factory cover with the thought of trying to find the correct material and have it replicated or even duplicated to put on my Spare Tire Covers. I haven't found the material yet either.

One thing I notice is that it is not the same as the one Rob has posted, and the part munber ends in 03 rather than 04. Now I wonder, from the purist standpoint, just how many different versions of this sticker there are and to what years they should apply.

 

I had originally thought these stickers were likely made of aluminum sheet with a gold colored finish, but on closer inspection I think the one I show is made of brass sheet and it measures just about .007 inch thick. I suspect the graphics are screen printed and maybe have a coating over the printing. I'm not sure what was used to stick them on.

FWIW I took some 3M protectant film and covered the stickers,
this will prevent further damage.

I am looking for a 1985 Euro hood sticker vacuum line routing ,
though I am not sure if they made one for the Euros

 

What are people with other models of Porsche using for stickers?

As I keep saying a lot of the decals are still readily available.
911 701 137 04 & 911 701 137 02 are available - 03 does not exist in the Porsche system.
928 006 105 03 Silver now not Gold

Stan I did check your engine spec decal 928 006 101 39 and not available

Holler if you need additional pics of anything, if (for instance) having pics that are 'straight on' makes your life easier in terms of making rectangular, not trapezoidal, stickers....


Jerry, interesting thought about the brass sheet- The spare tire sticker bends and has 'memory' like metal sheet would, no? The RDK decals that go on the inner barrel of the wheel rim are like that, but much thicker and heavier I'll mic one tonight but I 'd believe they are some sort of silkscreening on metal:

Yes, Rob, the spare cover is clearly metal. I just got back from town where I took my 03 sticker to one of my suppliers to see about the printing process. He too thinks it is silk screening. Then we tested the material with his acid that he uses to darken the engraving in brass plates and it seems to darken the very thin edge of my sticker. I am pretty sure it is Brass.

My guy makes small data plates on thicker aluminum sheet, but he uses an epoxy ink in his silk screening process. I think I will try to find some material and then see if I can get some made. Then I'll have to figure out what adhesive should be used to stick them on my spare tire Covers.

 

I looks like I am down to figuring out what kind of adhesive to use if I am able to get the graphics done. I need some kind of spray adhesive that can be applied to the back of the sticker and then perhaps covered with some wax paper, like maybe freezer paper, and then sent to the user who can remove the paper and stick the sticker on where it goes.

Anyone have any ideas about what to use??????

 

I can get many types of adhesives from 3m and others that we use to apply to the back of many different types of vinyl etc. You can get all different kinds from semi, to permanent and also with air channels so you don't get bubbles. This is the way to go, not spray. I can talk to one of my printers and get a sample to send you. You can apply these roll adhesives to almost anything. Then you have the adhesive and backer all in one.
