Welcome! Palmdale is a great desert community. It has grown significantly, in the past 20 years. Close enough to the city to be able to go enjoy all the good things. Far enough away that you don't have to deal with the city on a daily basis.

The biggest downside of the "greater LA" area is the traffic. I'm in Orange Country, which used to be the suburbs where the people from LA escaped to. Now it is it's own entity.....since the traffic got so insane that only people with frontal lobotomies can make the commute to and from LA.

As a general rule....50% of the people here should not be allowed to have a valid driver's license.....and if it rains, that number grows. It's like the old joke: "50% of the doctors out there graduated in the lower half of their class"....it's a given. right? Well, that's what we have here....a whole bunch of drivers that would have graduated in the lower half of their class....if there had been a class!

Just drive really defensively and you will survive.

LA is Moscow west. There isn't enough of anything to ever get me to live in California again. We left for good 28 years ago, and have never regretted a single day.

I became an Angel in Berdoo, and thought it was even better than my home state of Hawaii. It's become a police, and welfare state dedicated to illegals, deadbeats, and liberal Hollyweird wackos. It's a beautiful state that has it all. The residents suck!

You'll regret moving there, just give it time.

Its all perspective.

I feel like driving and living in CA is like the wild west compared to the police state that is Northern Illinois.

SoCal and NorCal have great spots.

That is why I don't drive on the freeways when it rains and
I seem to get almost hit every day because people don't look where they are turning and don't use their turn signal. It gets old, fast.

Most of the drivers here should either have their license revoked or have to take remedial driver's Ed. classes, it is really as bad as every one says. Watch out for soccer moms in Suberbans, they are nuts.

John, you know how I really feel already. I'm in my adopted state of Texas, teaching as a guest professor at A&M in Collage Station, till the end of the month. The kids here have never seen a Hells Angel, with a PhD. Some of them are tearing their hair out!

Say Hi to you're beautiful bride! We'll catch up to you two some time this year. We'll be building our 2nd shack in the Hill Country this year.
