Default Just bought our first project: WP0JA0928CS820745

Can you decipher this ‘82 928?

It’s a CA (very little rust) car that been sitting for five years but starts and drives (barely). SIL and I are going to try and resurrect/wrench on it and save it from the crusher. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle but looks like all the various plastics, seats, etc. are there in varying degrees of decay.

The high-mileage motor has milk shake looking film under the “OEL” cap although the dip stick looks clean. It idles fine and short parking lot test drives seem fine. We’re going to change the oil (first time) tomorrow to see what the pan looks like. Seems to have a shift (Auto) problem also.

We knew all this going in to it - it’s a project and we were looking for an auto that needed motor/head work.

When we ran the CarFax, it starts with over 50k from the 90’s with numerous sequential emission failures before finally passing. Does that imply it was in Europe prior or just a grey market car early in its life.

No expectations to restore, goal is a weekend driver with perhaps some performance upgrades.

This appears to be a fantastic forum and we’ll be leaning on it heavily so I apologize up front for my/our ignorance.

Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately that VIN falls into one of the holes in the dataset, at least my dataset. Perhaps others can chime in. WP0JA0928CS820745

Hi ScottKelly911- I'm afraid we only have options info on 1980-95 Porsche 928s. It looks like you have a 1970's 911 VIN there, but the 4th digit will be very important whether it's a 1 or a 7, as that denotes what year it is. What year 911 are you looking at?

EDIT: This one?

Yep, that’s the one. Thank you trying to find out more about the car. I know it’s not a real 930 since the Vin didn’t start with 930. Thank you, I appreciate it!

Thank you so much! Weird that they’d have converted a coupe. That was rarely done since it’s so much easier to convert a Targa. Thank you for the info! 🙏

If you inspect this car, I'm interested by the engine and gearbox numbers, and a good picture of the build sticker of the trunk. Thank you in advance.

Default VIN Check - Please & Thanks! WP0JA0920CS822022

Hi All,
I'm considering an 82 Manual 928, red, low mileage which was exported from the US to Canada.
Hoping to get the VIN spec breakdown, really hard to find any VIN decorders that give you the color and build spec.

Thanks for your time!

Unfortunately we don't have exterior and interior color data, only your friendly Porsche dealer (or Porsche Classic) has it. If you ask nicely at the parts counter they may share the original color codes with you.
