Convertible Prototype
Has this been discussed? Just prowling around on a site about the Porsche museum and it had this picture of a 928 S4 convertible prototype that was 'found' in storage. I like how the rear fenders wrap all the way around to meet the trunk lid, and the smooth, low profile cover over the top ... a nice contrast to the tall stack of contemporary convertible-top 964s and 944s ...

Too big an expanse of nothingness at the back - its needs something back there to break it up...
Nicely shaped indeed but just too plain...
luggage rack a la 356? antenna? wing?

Agreed. Fairings on the rear deck that meld into fairings on the tonneau, a la Boxster spyder?

Don't agree. The 928 is all about clean undisturbed lines. I think it is very classy, beautiful for cruising alongthe boulevard at Monaco, or similar.

For me, the 928 is all about curves. The standard rear really gives it a lot of character, so this convertible one looks very flat by comparison.

The shot lines on the doors look a bit iffy. I wonder what the total weight is with all the required structure to keep it stiff and if the front bulk head moves around like an old Alfa. The seats look interesting

Nice. Ive been holding off redoing the body work on my convertible until I found something I liked. I think this is the way to go. The main difference between this and what you normally see it that way the door rises up in the rear. That would not normally work that well, except in this case it flows into what they did with outline of the top cover. It would still be too flat, but they have the bulge in the center of the top cover that break up the flatness just a a bit.

what distinguishes this one from the aftermarket versions is the clean look along the door line past the b-pillar. The aftermarket versions look like the roof was just cut off, with the stub of the b-pillar remaining - which is the case. This car looks like it was designed as a vert from the get go. No hint of an amputated roof.

Nice treatment on the B pillar but the front side vents don't work.
My former convertible wasn't done too badly, but not as clean looking as the OP example.
