Does the starter need to be changed to the smaller one when installing the DEVEK Level II headers?

Devek had a very good set of headers made.

We dyno tested (engine dyno) a set of these versus my headers when we did Andy's engine....back to back.

The Devek headers were only about 10 hp off of my stainless headers.

As for the rest of the Devek system....pipe diameters are too big and the system is way too noisy, for my tastes. I just finished a 6.5 liter engine for a customer who's car already had these headers and the Devek matching exhaust system. I couldn't stand to drive it down the freeway. Way too much noise and resonance. Really ruins the cars, for me.

Another data point that might be of interest. Hacker took a boosted S4 making roughly 12psi with stock exhaust and put a vacuum/boost gauge on one of the exhaust bungs. He saw as much as 9psi exhaust back pressure. With my Devek L2 headers and custom exhaust all the way back, on my car making 11psi, I saw 1.5, maybe 2 psi back pressure. The car breaths WAY better.

Snorts fire too sometimes.

Did some searching through old emails, maybe this will help.

Here is the last dyno I did back in 2001. Mods were devek lvl 2 headers custom 2.5" dual into one 3" exhaust. 24# injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
Car made in the 283+ before the exhaust.

The holbert S4 made 293rwhp with no cat, but a stock exhaust system. with the level 2 headers, still on the car today, (by the way), it made 335rwhp, or repeated dyno tests. After 8 years of racing, it still made 320rwhp.
The only mods were the airbox venting, RRFR (pressure at 70psi), KN filter and exhaust. ( dual disc clutch as well as disconnecting all front accesorries which isnt worth anything on dyno tests)

the difference between these same headers and the 2 valve headers was about 9hp on my 5 liter part euro Ljet engine, at 291rwph vs 282rwhp. tested just before its first WCGT race in 2001.

Cool find. Just so people don't get confused, the x-pipe offered by DEVEK back in the day was designed to work with these headers. The X-pipes offered today by other vendors are designed to work with stock (85+) manifolds and thus will not mate up with these headers. 928MS offers a header back x-pipe (or at least they used to) and I'm not sure how that may or may not work with this system.

These headers have those figure-8 holes because of the slight difference between 16v and 32v locations in addition to the 3rd hole that's not present on 16v heads.
I think the idea is to saw off the piece with the third hole to use on a 16v because there would be interference.
I found that I could make spacers, like really thick gaskets, to space the header away enough to be able to leave that 3rd hole tab alone.
That way I was able to use the headers for a 16v engine and then a 32v one later.

Not to shanghi this thread....
RKD,
Here's a shot of your car after the install. In the first pic, Lucky Eckman was installing a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and another of your car as I loved the color! (Crude picture of a picture)
I took these at Devek Days 1999.

Wildguy, missed you at 3rd Coast dude!
