Default Tire Pressure Warning

My S4 has GTS wheels on it and as such I get a continual tire pressure warning on the dash. That's fine and doesn't really bother me. Recently however the tire pressure warning has started flickering on and off and that is annoying. It also suggests that something isn't working quite right. It appears to flicker on off when moving, stopping or hitting little bumps in the road. Possibly a loose connection somewhere? Alternatively perhaps some damp somewhere as it has got a bit wetter and colder recently. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Mike

I think I did read that a while back, I'll have a search for it. It is bothering me that it has just started flickering though. It suggests something is wrong somewhere.

I do have a few other warning gremlins which at first I didn't think were related but they may be. I get a rear light and brake light warning (2 separate warnings) but no bulbs are out. These both occurred before the flickering tire thing. Since around the time of the flickering I only get the brake light warning intermittently too.

given the other issues I'd check and clean the ground wires especially in the rear of the car where many grounds are gathered.

There are also grounds behind the instrument cluster. I am assuming you have a digital dash. If do then there are 4 electrical connectors to the cluster. One of them might have come lose.

Had the dash and cluster off a while ago. The ground looked brand new so I didn't mess with it but will take a look. Pretty sure I got the pod all hooked back up snugly but it's a good shout. Think I'll do the grounds first and see what happens. They should really be done at some point anyway.

The connectors for the cluster should also be checked. I did mine just a while ago and it looks like they are seated properly, but are not.
You really have to make sure they are in correctly and they really push them in. The "levers" on either end of the connector will automatically swivel to the horizontal position. Then just move the lever a little more horizontal to go over the small indent to lock it. If you use the levers to try to make the connection snug, it is not going to work.
I hope I am making myself clear. Once you have been in there it should make sense.

Mike

I do not know if the GTS wheels will work the RDK systen on an S4 - I guess it depends on the relative positioning of the sensors. As I am aware the RDK system was dropped for GTS unless that applied to the later94/95 models with the updated wheel design. I understand the system is not fitted on my 93 chassis- that or it was by-passed.

The procedure is quite simple in that it requires a jumper over two pins in the terminal rail but which ones I cannot remember. For some reason I have terminals 8 and 13 in my memory but cannot guarantee that.

Regards

Fred

17" RDK wheels require 1/2" longer mounting brackets for sensors. Sensors themselves are same part for '89-93 MY.

Found this in my archive...
I think this is good.

Just jumper pin #2 and # 13 on the plug to the box and leave disconnected.
And you will never have problem with the system anymore...

Bertrand, thank you, I have the RDK warning come on every 20 minutes and I close it out, but the red light on the dash stays on constant. Now I can jumper and not be bothered any more.

merci..

Bob

Bienvenue Bob.

I had a problem with mine too.
The front right one was always coming on even with the right pressure.
Bad sensor maybe.

By-passed the system as it is too sensitve anyway and that I don't want to drive the car with 44 lb in the back.
Also, I check my tire pressure very often.
