Girdle sealant

OK, before I'm tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail, I did a google search on Roloc and have found that I had indeed used a term for a form of metal axe. My bad bad bad! So I'm back to really not having a trade name for the product I use but it is like Scotchbrite and I would estimate very broadly to leave about the same finish as 600 grit sandpaper. I see that Roloc is about like 40 grit. Yes, not the tool for the job.
Image of what I use.
I use this on a lot of aluminum parts and to me, it leaves a very nice finish.
Regarding the use of the finger method, I am suitably chastened and will only bring a roller to the job from here on.
Regarding razor blades, beyond the fact that I severed the tendon to my thumb with one when I was 16 and almost lost the use of that hand, I think they can and will produce a scratch on the sealing surface unless handled with care and skill. Many of us only perform this procedure once in a while so the skill part can be lacking, even with the desire to be careful.
Agree that Locktite, like beer, should not be allowed to get out of date.
