Sounds like a good deal to me. From the pictures in the Registry its been kept well since '06.
Specialist bar was there back then and only ~20k miles in 7 years. Obviously a dealer sold it back in 2006. Odd Blue covers for the fog lights though, wonder if they are still there.

I'm not sure what to make of the Split Second controller. Other than telling what the air/fuel mixture is, I can't imagine what it would be doing...

for that price, I wouldn't get too wrapped up with a ppi. It clearly looks like it was cared for at some basic level. The intake job would have likely included new rubber bits on top of the engine - anybody doing a nice job like that typically would do the other WYAIT stuff too. Just get it, to the TB/WP, and drive it. Can't go wrong. Love the color - same as my previous 86.

I offered the asking price of $5,500 - and she's accepted - contingent on Adam telling me the car is as it appears in the photos and there isn't an unseen 'gotcha'.
Good Lord willing and the crick don't rise, I should have a new Shark in my garage in a few days!

Sadly another shark that has seen better days. Nice colour combo, but the interior needs work and the paint is rough. It's a project car IMO. It's 10 k away from being clean and reliable.

Thanks a million for looking at the car, Adam.
Here's Adam's assessment:
I know that interior and paint are the hardest and most expensive things to fix, but I can drive a car that has a rough paint and interior while they're being fixed. I can't drive a car while it's getting a mechanical refresh.
The initial thought was not to worry to much about the current mechanical condition of the car, considering that it was an 86.5 and had, at one time in its life, been well treated. Does that advice still hold, or am I looking at too much deferred maintenance now?
Other input on fair value and ultimate cost?
Here's Adam's assessment:
Well the car is in my opinion rough. Let's start in sections:
Interior. The seat bolster wear would indicate much higher mileage, it's ripped. The interior was pretty Derry with many little nicks and scrapes throughout. A couple of the power seat switches are broken, one rear seat will not go back. Carpet has been changed and or upgraded. AC does not work. Hvac system needs repair, probably a few diaphragms. AC compressor seemed to turn on but who knows.
Wheels and brakes. Brakes need work, squeaking and felt soft. Wheels have some curb rash.
Suspension and drive. Car felt pretty sloppy, probably needs suspension gone through. Not very tight. Another indication of higher mileage.
Exterior, scratches and the such from head to toe. Two areas with dents. Someone hit the back driver side and drove off. This car will need paint.
Engine. Seemed to run ok, slight ticking from the valve train but could be fixed by some nice thick oil. Tb and Wp was done in 2001' so it's due. Fuel lines, poer steering lines all original. Will need top end refresh, all hoses, intact was painted by previous owner.
I took more pictures and pics of some of the major service records And will send them to you when I get home with faster internet connection.
Would I buy the car? Probably not, unless I was looking for a very evolved project.
The owners seemed dicey. He obviously just drove it. He said when he purchased it they gave him the state inspection sticker but he took it to a mechanic and they went back and made the owner fix many things. So the last owner lied when he sold it to the current owner.
Glass was all intact.
This car will be a 10k minimum restoration if you plan on fixing everything, including the paint. Probably 7 k in mechanics.
Personally I think it has two major flaws, the paint and the interior. Which are the hardest to rectify

Ouch, proof again that online pictures don't tell the whole story. But this explains the price tag more so. Never seen that combo of colors before.
Overall not a bad car, talk them down as much as you can price wise start at $3500 and see what they say..... brake bleed would help the feel as it probably hasn't been done in a long while. Seats are replaceable, paint on the other hand is a pain. A refresh of the engine will take some time or money depending on who does it. Any leaks? Needs tb and wp, add about $1200 in just getting that up to snuff. Figure all new fluids, few hundred bucks. Brake pads, tires another few hundred, how nice of wheels do you want???? Suspension work can get expensive, depending on how crazy you want to get, does it need ball joints and bushings, maybe????
At this age all these cars need this sooner or later, low buy in with a good product is what you want. Not sure this fits the bill. But I like the S4 and later body and think those are pretty available also.....
How nice do you want it to be????? You can spend as much as you want or as little depending on your skills and drive.
Looks like Tom Dailey took care of the car in 2001.... not much passed that though....
