Curse you Greg Brown and your team at Precision Motorwerks - stroker

If there's any tread at all on DOT-legal tires, the stroker just spins them. Rob Rossitto had some Pilot Sport Cups (80 treadwear) with 265's and 295's. I fit-tested them on the GTS for Mark A when he was selling them. Drove around the block on them, (felt like driving a steamroller....) and they would spin at will in 1st or 2nd gear.
God knows Mark A broke a lot of transmissions, but the stories I remember him telling always seemed to involve dropping a wheel on and off, or getting punted suddenly to a funny angle, or being launched in the air, or some sort of combo of sudden loading and high throttle inputs that broke stuff. With tread blocks as a fuse, on the street, I think it's less of an issue.
The next iteration of the stroker will hopefully start breaking transmissions.

Unless you have enough power to spin the tires in 5th gear, the transmission will be seeing the full torque of the engine at the engine's torque peak in 5th gear (and so will the clutch).

Well, it did not take me long to hit the $2K mark for the timing belt update (I am driving to San Fran every other week for my daughter's cancer treatment) and Greg went out of his way, staying late with is kick-*** team to knock it out for me... the night before Shark fest, so you know how busy that time can be.
Greg and Co stayed late to help me when I was passing through and did it because he is a good guy, I did not tell him why I was going back and forth until after he was done...
You cannot say enough about a craftsman that goes out of his way to help customers in today's world.
Greg, Like always thank you - you are a class act all the way.

Rob,
A query not strictly related to this thread [well hopefully not] but what is that pictured in your Avatar - looks as though a plenum [or two] maybe fell off?
Is it one of those CF things that was much touted a few years ago but never really got going and dissappeared from site as quickly if not quicker than they were launched?
Regards
Fred

Fred-
A couple of those intakes did get completed:
They made ok power:
And looked decent doing it:
[/hijack]
Emerald- now that you've put some driving miles on that engine, what's your impression of it? Found yourself looking for excuses to do 60-XXX pulls?

Ah! -got the threads mixed up a bit!
Good that Emerald does not have one of those things on board!
How sweet it must be to have such a motor to tickle. Now I wonder what he wants for Christmas related to the inlet manifold!
Best wishes

Did a search and this seemed like a great place to add this .....
Had the opportunity to drive this Green monster last evening, was built by Greg Brown's shop and all I can say is WOW!!!!
I've driven Twin Screw and Centrifugal SC 5.0's 32v and of course my on N2O shark, but non compare to this beast, instant torque
A tire shredder for sure and it's got 295's on 18x11" rims !!!
Well done Greg, go me thinking now on what to do w/ my spare 5.0 32v lump.
Thanks Greg and thank you Eric for tossing me the keys

Got one of his wonderful engines in the garage right now. Looking forward to buttoning up this A/C and going for a drive.

All I can say is you are a lucky man and you are in for a real treat Sean.
It was fairly warm here yesterday I'd say down to the 80's by 7:30pm, we warmed her up got the oil pressure to a normal idle level, pointed her in a straight line in an industrial park and I nailed it, like I said wow, I backed off as its not my car, but OMG it just screams!

The "problem" with the 928 A/C system is that it is difficult (impossible on a hot day) for liquid Freon to reach the expansion valves, due to the size of the condenser. [Liquid Freon at the expansion valve is a basic requirement in this design of an A/C system. The liquid Freon sprays into a lower pressure area (the evaporator). Cold is released when liquid Freon turns into a gas.] If the vehicle is equipped with a "rear" A/C system....it is virtually impossible to get liquid back to that expansion valve....which is why most everyone never runs the rear A/C in hot weather...it simply reduces the amount of liquid that can reach the front expansion valve and the "front" cooling is reduced.
I removed the windshield washer tank (very few of the cars we see actually have functional windshield washers....and if they do, they certainly do not need a 2.5 gallon tank that turns the fluid into a "science experiment mold colony" long before anyone could possibly use it up. I've found that the late model "concentrated" tank is adequate for most people.....it will provide about 30 seconds of cleaning fluid.)
In the place of the windshield washer tank, I made a custom housing that holds an additional condenser and a fan assembly. I route the compressed Freon to this condenser first (to remove the majority of the heat) and then back to the stock condenser.
There's a "side benefit" of routing the Freon this way....the temperature of the air that the radiator "sees" drops 100 degrees, when the A/C system is running in 80+ degree weather. This lowers both the coolant and oil temperatures significantly (for those that are running their oil through the radiator.....as everyone should be doing).
The system is now able to "condense" enough Freon that both the front expansion valve and the rear expansion valve receive solid liquid Freon, resulting in two very cold evaporators. This works so great that we provide a higher volume front fan motor so that more air can pass through the front evaporator.
The result is fantastic. The system can now blow very, very cold air in high enough volume to quickly cool down the car and keep it very cold. The evaporators get so cold that even on a day with mild humidity, water will virtually run in a solid stream from the evaporator drains....even the rear!
The entire system, with all the above mentioned parts plus wiring and updated relays for both the additional fan and the higher volume fan motor costs $2495.00. This includes new hoses to and from the replacement condenser and a new dryer. Obviously, a properly functioning A/C system is essential to good results. The compressor, the expansion valves, and the evaporators must be in good condition and clean.
