Years back when I had my first 928, the trans stop working, I remove it and called my buddy, who rebuild benz trans, after his third rebuild on my trans, it would not work at all, maybe it was the secret o-ring he missed, don't know, I ended up putting a 87 928 trans in my shark, my was limited slip, the 87 was not, but the shark is still rolling, hats off to you on the rebuild.

Most folks who say that are the ones who don't have a lift yet.

Consider that you can chain the trans up, disconnect almost everything, unbolt the rear suspension less the top shock bolts, lower the car down to suspension on the floor, undo the top shock bolts, and just raise the car up. Roll the suspension out of the way. Lower the car enough to support the trans on a rolling work cart. Un-chain it, raise the car, and the trans is on the work cart.

A lift will dramatically un-expand your work vocabulary.

There's really nothing simple about this entire job....from the removal, to the actual rebuild, to the installation.

I can't imagine doing this in a home garage.

You've got my respect, if it even moves the car forward, much less shifts.

These things are tough.

I agree with Greg and Dr. Bob. I cannot imagine doing half of the stuff some guys here do without a lift. Saves so much time and you can actually see what you're doing most of the time! Plus the leverage you can get when needed... My next house will have space for a lift for sure. For now I'm blessed with my brother's shop and his 3 lifts (not to mention his expertise!)

Very interesting thread. The transmission has to be the toughest part to deal with. I have only done the filter change on mine, I used a real lift, and I could not believe how shiny and clean the interior of it was. It looked brand new. Even putting the new fluid back in is a pita. (Should have had Dwayne fly in to document this)

Wayne, got trans in car, somehow I messed up the valve body valve and spring layout when one piece fell out when I thought I had it completely stripped down. It shifts fine 1st to 2nd to 3rd, but when it shifts to 4th it starts hunting between 20 and 40 mph. Reverse is locked up like it is in 1st and reverse at the same time, and when in neutral it is actually in 1st gear. I shipped the valve body to SC who said he would fix it but said I had to be patient.......

Tony Harkin ran somewhat into the same issue when he took his valve body apart, in this thread - https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...omponents.html

The documentation on the valve body is lacking details.

As been said earlier you've gone FAAARRR compared to many...for you a little miss step is permissible ...hope she runs great when all's together
