Impressive work!

So does this mean the 928 owners now have an East Coast transmission rebuild solution?

Good luck with the rest of the work and thank you for posting your progress.

Great job Glen.
I had learned a lot about the transmission's components when I had my failure. I was not as brave as you to rebuild the unit. I took the easy way out of the dilemma.

It doesn't appear that you will need it, but there's thread with a lot of info in one place here.

Glen,
I think you found your calling! Maybe you should open up a shop here on the East Coast, we could use some transmission talent out this way

I want to be a fly on the pod when you start it and put it in "D" and drive off.
That will be a "nail biter!

Hope it all works out for you, it looks great!

Glen,

Can you share where you sourced your hard parts from?

Adam, got gasket set with frictions and metals from Transtar. I probably shouldn't have bothered with the metals as they really weren't needed. I only used two of the 8 pieces I received and the rest did't match the thickness needed. Got the B2 band, valve and support from Roger, Greg said they should be changed at the same time. Got the thicker circ clip for the K2 clutch as the measurement for the clearance was too large, I used the 3mm to get it in spec, through local MB dealer

Thom, don't know if I ever want to do this again. Before everyone starts looking to me as the east coast transmission guru, lets see if it works when I'm done!

Thom, appreciate that. I'll hang out my shingle as a 928 transmission specialist when I confirm that this works. Plus, need a garage with a real lift, not just a scissor lift, a real transmission jack....Not much fun laying on a creeper.

Yes.
I replaced my transmission while on liftbars. Most of the time I wasn't on the creeper.
