newly acquired 86.5!!!!!!
Sean and I have acquired an 86.5 5 speed that is in pretty good condition....the body is a non rub strip and the paint is very good on all the panels, with only light oxidation on the hood and rear bumper.... the dash is cracked as is the pod, but the seats are surprisingly good...only light wear on the bolsters and no tears....a light cleaning-dye job would fix them easy
It has 86,100 miles. We are seriously considering parting it out and wanted to gauge interest on the list to see who is interested in certain parts before we move forward....the parts that are NOT available are the engine short block and transmission (unless the price is right)...everything else is for sale.... S4 brakes and suspension, MSDS (2 flange) headers and Borla exhaust in very good condition.
It is currently registered in California and passed smog last February and has never failed all the way back to 1997

It runs, but not well......there are numerous vacuum leaks and I saw cracked intake rubber boots along with cracked vacuum lines..... This explains the rough running....I am sure it will not pass smog without a full tune up. I only mention this is someone is looking for a project-runner....with a nice full tune up it should run very well.....
The HVAC is completely dead....zero fan, nothing works at all...clearly this must be a fuse-relay issue but I didn't look at the panel yet.... plus the outer door handle does not work (simple fix)
Almost forgot the radiator got the classic missing headlight circlip punch...so there is a leak where it got stabbed.....its a bummer because the previous owner just resealed the end tanks and had the radiator cored....bummer The trim rings around the headlights are also missing but I have some (somewhere?)
Here are the pics....

Interested in the front spoiler and the grill brackets or whatever they're called. As long as the condition is good. Also, dibs on the air intake tubes.
Are the flag mirrors working? Would be interested as well. My motors are shot I think.

It's just sad. I myself have take cars apart as well. Crashed a coupe. Still have a few. But this car is in good condition and as Greg says, there won't be many of these soon.

Brian I wouldnt be scrapping that car,
its just got too much potential to cut it up for parts to fix a race car.
Why not let someone else fix this baby and just buy a motor ,
there is an S4 motor for sale in TX just posted comes with computers and harness 2999.00
I know your on the hunt for a trans as well but still.....

Porsche 928 S4 1987 5.0 Engine 101K - $2999 (Mansfield)

Porsche 1987 928 S4 Engine.
Used 101K miles, car was running fine. Well kept and maintained by owner.
Reason for selling: Replacing with new LS based crate engine.
I am not parting the whole car out, just the pieces not needed for the LS Conversion.
Engine is still in car. Allow a few days to drop and package for shipping. Will be shipped FedEx freight, on pallet, wrapped in plastic.
Comes with Full engine, all accessories, Wire Harness and ECU. If you have any other parts in the pictures you want from the engine bay with the engine, just ask.

I'd also like to see this one saved. A simple intake refresh should get her going engine wise. Interior looks nice, just needs some TLC.
Save her!
If not...you have my request for body parts

Heck I might even take that car and fix it up if the price is right.

I agree with the others that that's an awfully nice car to part out.
However, would be interested in a price on the shocks/springs (all four of each) and the headers/exhaust if it will fit an 89 S4 (don't know the exhaust interchangeability myself)
That said, I'm poor and cheap, so I probably will still pass. But shoot me a price regardless. PM or Keith at Sway dot org.

VIN is in the 2400 range..... its a true 86.5.....and it runs....
I agree it could be saved for the street......but it would require a bit of time and wrenching....things that Sean & I are short of recently....we HAVE plenty of 928's....but not much time to fix them....we prefer to drive-race them vs turn wrenches & track down issues... At the same time we LOVE 928's and if someone is willing to take on this car and "save" it.....we are willing to listen....
Our options are easy..... 1: Save it as a parts car and sell off what we don't need for our race cars
2: Fix it and make it run as a nice street car.....3: Turn it into yet another race 928 (we have 4 right now)
I literally picked it up today.....it will be at the Thunderhill shop by the end of the week....
If someone wants to save this 928 to return it to the street....lets talk....

No ,No ,No,No part out NO. Don't you guys have anything better to do with your time? An 86.5 in much worse condition than that I am rebuilding and if you guys are really REALLY going to do that then wait a bit till I get a little money aside and I will buy the whole thing, don't do this, nice car god you may have to many but I do not.
