Me too! I haven't tried to reinflate it yet. My lift is tied up with my brother's unit getting ready for Watkins Glen this weekend...

That is probably so they can stuff it in a box labelled Porsche and charge you 5 times the going rate

Good spot if otherwise identical

The number is different but Volvo uses an identical valve. I can get them for $75 new.

Well...I couldn't get the fuel tank to pop back to original shape with compressed air. I then removed the fuel level sender (brand new) and found it stuck in the funnel at the bottom...extracted it successfully, but the cylinder is dented...will have to straighten that out with a socket as Rob did...

Then I tried beating the dent back out from the inside through the level sender hole with a wooden baseball bat, but no go.

So...out the tank has come. Note the top with the level sender hole is somewhat collapsed, and there is a repair from who knows when (right where Dwayne's cracked if I am not mistaken).

Here's the big problem on the bottom of the tank:

The camera angle doesn't really show how collapsed the bottom is. I've got it baking out in the sun right now...looks like it is already starting to come back to shape. We'll see.

Sucks man. Vacuum cleaner probably isn't strong enough. Plunger?

If that's really true, then...

I tried to straighten my new fuel level sender tube, but my Snap-On 34mm socket has an extra thick shoulder that doesn't allow it to slide inside the tube. So...I took apart my disgusting original sending unit, cleaned up the tube and transferred the rest of the new sender over. Perfect.

Given how much damage this relatively inexpensive purge valve can cause on these cars, perhaps it should be considered a standard replacement item...

Not at the "944" price.....

This place is so great. The exchange of information and help is great for everyone.

We help you fix your car....and it turns out you have a tidbit of information that helps everyone!

Most of us have looked at the Porsche price and shat ourselves, it was your thread and posts that got Roger looking at the alternatives and the pricing of such. I'm getting one of those tomorrow and going to toss it on my car even though I have a working P-car one. Will update in 10 years when it fails or if these don't work you will know by me needing a gas tank.

Thanks for posing this up as I've had a few customers that elected to just leave the system open at the Y connector instead of spending "shop" costs to fix it. This kind of stuff is what makes Rennlist the bomb.

Yes, free exchange of information is excellent. My brother said a Rennlist membership would be invaluable in restoring this car, and he was correct.

While the Porsche and Saab valves are identical externally, can anyone think of a way they could be different internally?
