Default dash apart, questionable wires and AC vacuum lines

I have always had a hissing noise and this white vacuum line is not connected and I cannot find a home for it.
Also there are two red wires both have female ends the are just hanging around the drivers side.
One is solid red and the other is red with a black strip

Anyone familiar with these?

That red/blk wire is fairly large like the one used on the cigarette lighter plug. Just guessing though

A white vac line goes from HVAC vacuum control solenoid to the heater valve.

White vacuum line?????? HELP HELP
A white vac line goes from HVAC vacuum control solenoid to the heater valve.

Is the HVAC vacuum control solenoid on the drivers side.?I cannot find a logical place to were it plugs in>>>> really frustrating

Also I can still not find the prower source loss for the radio and fan/AC/blower
Everything seems connected. Maybe the XVIII and or the XXI relay?
I will replace both

van,
Here are some pics from Dwayne's write up http://dwaynesgarage.norcal928.org/
Even though his is an S4, the vac system for HVAC is the same.

After you get this all squared at the solenoid under the center console, be sure to check the source vacuum line from the brake MC. My line off the 'T' there looked good until I removed the cowl cover. There the line was re-joined with a rubber fitting that was split. Even after you check that solenoid holds vacuum, if your source line is faulted, it is all for naught.

Good suggestion
What is interesting is how much different an '80 is from an S4. However the basics are the same. I found the problem
it was the solenoid under the dash pod (the pod is out) In the back is a nipple that just looked right. I plugged in the white vacuum tube and now my AC works as well as the blower. I don't think all of this is related because the white tube has been off for at least a year ( hissing away).
Job done! thank you
v
