Default Rear wheel bearings question and something else...

Hi,

Just returned from my mechanics shop, where we confirmed that the sound from the rear that I’ve been noticing lately it’s definitely the rear left side wheel bearing.

First question: do you agree that as I have to change the left side I should replace also the right side, after all they both have 30 years old?

When the car was on the air I noticed on the front of the car, left and right, what you can see in the pics. It seems something should be in those holes, like a protective bar from side to side or something. I’ve been looking in PET but can’t really confirm if something is missing.

Second question: Should I have some part there? If yes, what’s the P/N? And what is it’s function?

TIA for your answers and help

Regards

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If other bearing is good I would not do it, at least I did not on my '86.5 years ago. I believe the threaded holes are for adjustment tool.

if it was me, might as well do both. my karma would have the other go out days later.

the holes are for the old style "shocks" that went with the motor mounts on early cars. they bolted in there.

After the right rear wheel bearing was replaced on mine, the left side bearing had to be replaced twelve months later.

If money's not an issue I would do them both and the CV joints and boots while I was at it. If money is an issue do both wheel bearings.

Hi

Just had the drivers side (UK) rear wheel bearing changed on mine..... it had been groaning for weeks...lol

I hope you are not thinking of doing it yourself as its a fair length job and you NEED a press for it....

No reason whatsoever to change the other side if its not noisy and you cannot hear anything when wheel spinning while off the ground....

All the best Brett

Amazingly, when I changed mine, the left and the right were in the exact same shape!

I don't understand why.

Maybe you can change one.

And your other one isn't in bad shape.

Maybe it is still in good shape.
