Default Race report...."Lemons South" CMP park 928 Estate

I flew across the country to drive my old racer in 24 hours of lemons with its new team "Come Monday Motorsports"..... The guys did a GREAT job prepping the car.....the best it has ever been......

I got in the car at about 1145 and we were around 45th place.....I got out just under 2 hours later and we were in 5th..... Not a single car passed me and I only battled with one (the eventual winner)

I'm working on more videos and pics.......

The race ended up being quite somber.....we were in 2nd place towards the end of the day Saturday.....right after our last pit stop another racer had a heart attack, and hit the wall, flipping over it.....unfortunately the driver did not survive

This really swept through the paddock like a ton of bricks....the mood went from fun to somber instantly. However the racers were able to raise $4500 for the family and 24 hours of lemons matched it...so $9000 to his family helped things

The other unfortunate side effect was the track wall was damage so severely that it took 22 hours to fix, so we didn't get on track until 2pm Sunday, but the race was extended until 530 instead of 4. An unlucky black flag took us out of contention and things only got worse from there......I didn't drive on Sunday.....

Looks like a ton of fun other than the heart attack. Yikes. I was just thinking yesterday on my jog, and then again while watching the Singapore F1 race (crazy hot and humid there), how important physical conditioning is for car racing.

What was the black flag for?

What has all been done to the oiling system? How is it been holding up?

We're going to get smoked.......

Default Lemons race at CMP

I enjoyed being there and watching you guys pass everybody on every lap, to bad about the penalties and the fatal accident, I think if it had gone the total distance, you guys had a good chance to win it.

I was also VERY impressed with the grip....tires are 225/45-17 front 255/40-17 rear Dunlop Direzza II or whatever the new star spec is....I was worried that it would understeer really bad since we disconnected the rear bar too....quite the opposite it was GREAT...the grip improvement in the rear was AMAZING....super easy to gently slide the car under power and you could really lay down power IN TURNS....the 4-5-6 and 12-13 area I could go flat much earlier than everyone else and take a tight inside line and it just stuck....braking was equally impressive for such small front tires....

We didn't get any flags on Saturday....our 1st driver thought he got a flag but he didn't.....unforunately he came in anyway.....on sunday one driver got hit by a douche dive bombing him in T14.....that ended our chances of catching the leader.....then the next driver had issues and got flagged twice....so we were parked for the last hour....

Forgot the oiling system.....it is an early (OB) oil pan with a 3/8th inch pan spacer + cooler....thats it....not even and accusump.....and it didn't need it.....we only burned 3 qts all weekend.....I never saw much pressure drops and the temps never got over 225F.....when I ran the same setup with no cooler I regularly saw 275F oil temps and larger pressure drops....

Hey Brian,

What did you think about the steering wheel in the Estate?
I'm looking to source one for my track car, and I've been looking at a flat bottom, flat wheel, in order to leave maximum clearance for my legs and to keep the wheel as far away as possible.
I see that the Estate has a dished, round, wheel. How were the ergos with that wheel, did you feel cramped in at all. Was there a quick release on the wheel as well? (further reducing the distance to the driver).

I like the wheel in the estate, but honestly its too big.....Casper has a smaller wheel and I like it better..... Casper has a sparco? The NRG quick release works really well too....

I want to say the Estate has a 350mm wheel and Casper might be 300?

I reviewed the video footage from my stint......in my 1st hour I passed 189 cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not bad considering a new to me track and only 117 cars in the field!!
