Default Does anyone know if this pod will work in my '81?

The seller doesn't know the year, but it has the 85mph speedo. The temp/fuel and oil pressure/voltage gauges are totally different than my car, but will it still work?

That pod is from a 78 and will only work in a 78.
You need a pod from 79-81. Those are the only ones that will work.

Your welcome, but why are you changing it out?

My only gauges that work are the Temp and RPM. I've had the PCB worked on before and was told that the next time the gauges stop working, I'm going to need a new one.

Since a new Printed Circuit is $300 just for the part, I saw that entire pod for sale on eBay for $250 and thought maybe I could just swap it out and be done with it. Nothing is ever that easy.

Do a hard wire conversion for $50. Hardest part is figuring out how to wire it.

Years ago,1990s, there was a company that made a set of marker pens for hand drawing PCBs. One pen put down silver conductive paint and the other put down green overcoat insulation. The price for the set was less than $20.00. I used them to make up PCBs so I could have LED Nav. lights on my R.C. aircraft, and it worked real great! I had to use low-temp "match" solder to mount the components. If I remember correctly the company was called Cincinnati Electronic Supply. I don't know if they still exist but it's worth looking up. The idea is to over-paint the damaged areas of a PCB with it still in place.

Is this the same kind of pen? Is this the same kind of pen?

Just to be clear, the pod from an early model will work; it is the instrument cluster within the pod that is year specific, and needs to be properly configured for your model year. Pods are generally interchangeable from year to year, at least up to 1989 IIRC.

I recognize that pod - I bought it off eBay yesterday for the cluster.

Marc Yelloz, looks like the same thing. The set I got also had the insulating pen too, so you could draw multi-layers.
