Well I had a play with 15mm on the flats (now I finally saw them) and see what you mean by rotation at ball. Will be prepared for doing job properly next time. Thanks for all help especially Dr Bob's vernier. Have printed and filed instructions

What is the going rate to get the car on a laser alignment rig in the UK?

If you know the alignment is good- all well and good but given the fact that it is off centre as it is, I would want to get the car on the alignment rig ASAP given the cost of tires.

Regards

Fred

Hi Fred

It's a good question.

There is only 1 guy I would want to adjust 928 alignment - Chris Franklin at Center Gravity. I've spent time at his shop and he not only has an extraordinary reputation, but is utterly ,devoted to and evangelical about correct suspension geometry and deeply knowledgeable.

Lots of cheaper options, but one hears many discouraging stories about so many "experts" and their results (often sorted with trip to Chris), including OPCs. Having said that my local OPC has brand new Hunter facility, so may have interim alignment there before a trip to Chris (who takes all day on a single car, and will often work late into the night in pusuit of perfection). Tyres not wearing oddly, she feels fine on the road, so I don't think major adjustment urgent. But as you say the must be something off with toe for her to be not going straight with rack centred!

First thing you need to know about alignment is what alignment settings you actually want and what to look for as the alignment is done. Thast way if the folks doing it do not know how to sort out a 928 you can make sure they do by the time they have finished. It is not difficult as as long as you know what to look for.

Plenty of tips on the list and happy to write something for you if you need it.

Fred

If the car pulls to one side whilst driving or whilst braking something is wrong. whether enough to cause premature tyre wear something else.
