Default 2013 Bonneville Results

We arrived at Bonneville only to find out the event has been cancelled. They had torrential rains all this week I guess and the event was cancelled Wednesday night. They posted it on their website, only problem with that was we left on Wednesday noon and never looked at their website again.

After we picked ourselves up off the ground, my crew and I unloaded the car at the end of the pavement just to take these pictures. It was raining as I took them.

Even as we left on Saturday for home, the National Weather Service was issuing flood watches for Wendover UT, and it was still raining.

We are home again now, (5,260 miles later) and making plans to go to Speed Week in June 2014 with the car. It's ready - I just need a track to run it on!

Anyway - enjoy the pictures.

Oh boy, and you kept your cool and started making pictures! I think I would have danced the raindance on top of my camera screaming -beep-beeep-beep- and other 18+ words!!! You certainly have the control that is needed for this form of motorsport!

Ugh, Carl, sorry to hear it, that really stinks!. What was that, $2K in gasoline alone?

Looking forward to next year!

Another note, and a THANK YOU to Dave Loomas and Garrity at Motorsport, in Salt Lake City.

Friday night at 6 PM, this happened (see picture). All right - no problem - we carry a spare for the trailer, lets just use it. Came with the trailer when I ordered it new.

This is when we found out that the spare I have been carrying for years has a 5-bolt lug-pattern on it and my axles are all 6-bolt. My spare didn't fit my trailer!

We were at the start of the cut up I80 when this happened and about 3 miles North of Salt Lake. We called every tire dealer and dispatcher we could for 30 minutes, but could not get a sole to come out. After all - it's 6:30 on a Friday night! Even AAA was no help. The tire I had on the spare was the right size - I just needed to dismount it and mount it on to the 6-lug wheel.

Called Motorsport and prayed that somebody would answer after-hours, and Garrity did. In no time at all he "new a guy" with a tire changer and had Dave Loomas on his way to pick me up. Dave picked me up and my two tires/wheels and ran me back in to town, and had to get a friend who owned a tire center to come back to work and unlock the building (he was already at home having dinner), change the tires, and then Dave drove me back to my truck and trailer on the shoulder of the interstate.

Absolutely saved my ***. And neither Dave, nor the Manager of the Tire Center, would take a dime from me. I tried to - they wouldn't have it.

Many thanks to Dave and Garrity for their selfless assistance. They are right in the middle of a move to a larger facility, and dropped everything to help me. Class act!

You're close. $2400 in diesel fuel round-trip.

What exactly is your tow vehicle?

Looks like a cross between Brinks & travel trailer, lol.

One is the oil separator, and the other is the coolant reservoir. We have 25 gallons of water in the system (the stock 928 is about 5) and no radiator. Note no cooling openings in the front of the car.

Conventional (V-8) power? I only ask because the "buoy and flag" you've got inserted in the air dam hints at possible turbine power. But they don't need H20 cooling, IME.

Would you care to share the details of the engine, trans, etc?

And do you have no radiator simply to reduce drag? Is it a "total loss" cooling system? Or do you recirculate the hot water back into the 25 gallon reservoir?

And re: the "oil separator". I'm familiar with those on model steam launches. What does yours do?

What types of speed do you expect to hit? And what have you attained? (Again, if you don't mind me asking).

Sorry you were rained out, btw, but great looking car! (And tow vehicle--curious about that too).

Thanks for posting. And be sure to remind us, before your next attempt, so we can wish you well and follow along!

What a bummer...but seriously, such a big event with the logistics and all, and you never checked the website for any type of update? Worse yet, the organization doesn.t have any type automated text alert system in place for such an occurance??

I would be pi$$ed!

That's a lot of time, resources and $$$$ to toss away.

heck, my kids got an automated text message from the soccer league and each coach that practice was xncld in town due to weather tonight.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall as you drove on to the lake bed area.

"Gee Olly.....it looks aweful quiet out here ...do you think they xnld the event?"

the place is flooded!!

great pictures though. "all dressed up and nowhere to go"...."a Shark with no prey"

Carl,

Very disappointing trip. After all those preparations, and no event, it's a real downer...

At least your going back for another run in 2014, so all that investment in the car modification won't be wasted.

Good luck next season,

You must have felt like "The World's Fastest Indian" when Burt Monroe turned up from New Zealand without a booking!

Did anyone else do the same [turn up] as a matter of interest? I kind of know how you must feel- once turned up at the British Embassy here for a close friends wedding- 1 day late! He was very understanding.

Better luck next time

Yes! We were there about 2 hours and a French Canadian showed up with as much surprise as we had, and a race team from Seattle Washington.

They had our cell-phone numbers, they were on our registrations as emergency contact numbers. They just didn't USE them...
