Trunk Door Height Adjustment
I've noticed that my trunk door sits a little high on the back bumper cover, slightly out of alignment with with the quarter panels, leaving a larger than normal opening between the rear bumper cover and the trunk lid.
The good news is that it functions correctly, with locks and lights working.
Once closed, I can push on the lid edge a bit and it can get to level, but without pushing it it pops back up a 1/4" or more.
More annoyingly, with certain bumps, the timed interior lights go on, and I believe it is due to the fact that the trunk latch does not push the light button down far enough to withstand bumps.
Is there any way for me to adjust the door to close a little tighter?

open the hatch and look at each corner there are thumb screw rubbers in each corner,
twist each one half a turn and test it,
also when your done take a sheet of paper and test the square rubber bumpers that run along the midway portion of the hatch opening,
put the paper on the rubber close the hatch and pull the paper if it rips the the rubber should be lowered a few MM and then retested
OTOH if the paper pulls easily then rubber should be raised

interesting you mentioned this. I don't really have a 928 to compare mine too but I believe my trunk is set to high. I noticed one of the wires is disconnected. when i plug it in, the trunk light and a light in the passenger's side turns on. when i close the trunk it stays on. When I press down on the trunk the light shuts off. Also when i drive i can hear the road as if their was a hole in my car. I don't have carpet (will order some after mechanical problems are fixed).

I have the same issue with my '89. Read all the threads on this, rear hatch bumper stops, nope, not hitting them, side stops, no, they're ok. Play with the hatch hinges, no change. Latch, perfect. Lip of the hatch is 1/4" too high. It all hits and stops on the latch insert.

A couple of things....
Quite commonly as the hatch latch parts wear a rattle develops and this can be eliminated by screwing the rubber corner bumpers out, snugging up the latch but also raising the hatch like yours.
The main culprit is wear of the upper latch white plastic tongue. The wear is to the hole in the tongue through which the pivot pin passes. A kit to replace the tongue is available. Fixing this will allow you to adjust the hatch back down without creating a rattle. This thread describes my experience with this.

Also, some 928s come from the factory with shim plates underneath the lower receiver's top flange. Unscrew the Allen bolts and pull up the receiver body and see whether any shims are under the top flange. If so, remove them. This will lower the receiver and allow you to screw the rubber bumpers back in lowering the hatch as well.
