Thought I recognised that track, I wonder who's the 928 GTS was? I am sure somebody down here knows him. A really fast time is a 1.00 dead for those drive days but that is with highly modified cars. So that time quoted is pretty good for both cars.

Looked like the GTS' suspension was a little soft and he was battling that; car didn't look settled. And after a while he may have started driving in his mirrors. Missed an apex or 12 in there. I would too if a boosted Bug was on my ****! At even 175-200hp in the bug the power to weight ratio is no contest. Plus he was flat through the turns, so obviously he's got some suspension mods going on. And all the same, any car in the hands of a skilled driver can beat just about any other car. At the Glen last fall, on my first day ever of DE, I got passed by a Maxima, simply because the driver was far better on the track than I was. Working on it...

If you kept watching past the GTS footage it held its own against a bevy of 911 Turbos.

Ali,
I know you loved finding this video. It looked to me that the GTS driver was unfamiliar with the track and possibly the handling of his car, but, that being said, that beetle was pretty quick and did track very flat.

Cool, but besides the 928, I saw only one other car that wasn't a Beetle!

y/t description states: "VW 1302 super beetle. 2.7 lt. type4 engine.46IDA Weber carbs. Lowered and stiffened original suspension. Road registered and playing with the big boys."

Looks like it might be a long way from PACNW, given steering wheel and

This must've been a bad day for someone, looked like a redlight on the bug but also like a carrier catapault:

No turbo here. In Europe they take the old super beetles and turn them into track cars. They call them Kafer super beetles or super beetle german look. Usually they use the flat 4 (Type IV) from the VW bus or 914 Porsches and modify them like this one on the video. making 150 to 200 HP depending on displacement or how good a built it is. Some use the original type I engine because parts are cheaper. Some even install a 5 speed 911 transmission.
Apparently the super beetle chassis/suspension was a test bed for 924 suspension. Therefor some of the suspension pieces from 944 bolts right up along with the break system.
Here are some pics for your enjoyment:
