Pretty cool. I have seen a few at the drag strip that fly. Always fun to watch and they look fun to drive.

The one in the first link that namasgt posted looks pretty bad. Wouldn't mind that in my driveway!

While i find the shape humorous, a modded new bug is nothing to laugh at. Rode in a 2010 with turbo and lowered with suspension mods and the thing flat got with the program.

To be fair on his car, that is a very tight little track and more suited to the Bug than the Shark.

If we didn't have a vested interest in the matchup it would actually be kind of funny that we have to make excuses for a race against a VW Beetle. I'd prefer seeing the same outcome against a Viper or nineties Ferrari. The driver of the GTS must have felt the same as Samantha Stosur, a US Open Tennis Champion of a year or two ago who lost last night to a 17 year old American playing in her first US Open.

Patrick I believe you are correct, the car is an automatic GTS and had an X-pipe years ago when I saw it. We were at the Porsche's clubs dyno day and both our cars where dynoed that day. From memory it had either 178 rwkw or 187 rwkw. I think it was 178 rwkw. That was on the Dyno Dynamics dyno in "shootout mode"

Doug, you have to admit that the performance of that 928 was indeed impressive considering it's 4400lbs weight

YEAH but you can't swap an LSx into a beetle or still look good running Detroit muscle.

That Tatra was amazing it completely obliterated the ......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_%28company%29

Tatra and the conception of the Volkswagen Beetle

Both Hitler and Porsche were influenced by the Tatras.[6] Hitler was a keen automotive enthusiast, and had ridden in Tatras during political tours of Czechoslovakia.[1][6] He had also dined numerous times with Ledwinka.[6] After one of these dinners Hitler remarked to Porsche, "This is the car for my roads".[1][6][7] From 1933 onwards, Ledwinka and Porsche met regularly to discuss their designs,[8] and Porsche admitted "Well, sometimes I looked over his shoulder and sometimes he looked over mine" while designing the Volkswagen.[6][7] There is no doubt that the Beetle bore a striking resemblance to the Tatras, particularly the Tatra V570.[6] The Tatra T97 of 1936 had a rear-located, rear-wheel drive, air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine accommodating four passengers and providing luggage storage under the front bonnet and behind the rear seat. Another similarity between this Tatra and the Beetle is the central structural tunnel.

Cool. Guy can drive. Looks like it's got all the attributes of an early 911.
