I agree. These Euro16v motors seem to be like gold. The engine builders here probably know about what it would cost to take a 4.5 or 4.7 US and make it run like a euro. And what will a Euro do with better exhaust/tuning?? 350hp? I am not sure how well these take to supercharging/turbocharging due to the higher compression(really good gas is an absolute).Mileage and care, as with anything on these cars, is important.

I don't know the pre 87 engines very well. Please help me understand how to identify a 16 V 4.7 Euro. I thought one was to look for the "Twin Dizzy". Does this predate the twin?

The "Euro" parts are 4.7l blocks with higher CR pistons, smaller chambered heads with bigger valves, bigger ID runners and larger plenum, bigger throttle body, different WUR and higher-lift cams. Lots of improvements add up to more air through the engine. That's also a lot of changes from a US motor.

Note to Carl: the exhaust manifolds are plain.

I've gotten about 340HP from mine with increased CR and bore, '85 exhaust manifolds and A/F and spark tuning.

A "twin dizzy" is a Euro S with LH injection. The early S cars have a single dizzy and CIS injection.

Yes. The M28/11 and M28/12 16v motors were a special engine option when ordering your 928 available in the years 1980 to 1983 only. It has a single distributor and uses K-Jetronic mechanical injection.

The 310 HP 16v motor is the M28/21 and M28/22; has LH-Jetronic injections, and was an option available in 1984-1986.

Both of these engines are far more common in ROW than here in North America.

A lot of early cars have the "S" trim package (chin spoiler and tea cup rear spoiler) but that doesn't mean they have the "S" engine. Those items were separate on the build/order sheet.

Euro S 4.7L engines run VERY well..... Seans 4.7L Euro S LH (M28/22) made 278whp-298 torque WITH the restriction of a full L jet intake-AFM So that could be 327 crank HP at 15% loss....I think 300whp is possible with the full LH intake-MAF....

My engine is a bit of a hybrid 16V...full 1981 4.5L L jet engine (9-1 CR) but it has early 187-188 euro S cams and "ported" heads...that I guess flow about like euro S heads given its power...

Not to mention that the 300 and 310 HP motors are 4.7L where most of the US-spec 16v motors are 4.5L. I know you know that Glen, - just mentioning it for Kurt above.

I also think that the fuel distributor on the 300 HP K-Jet engines were different, my source tells me they were hand selected based on flow for these "high output" engines. I know they are the same part number as other K-Jet engines, but in my experience and from what I was told, they flow better.

Just to correct the misinformation above ---

M28/11 and M28/12 16v were NEVER an option but standard fit in the 1980 to early 84 ROW S cars.
None S ROW cars were 4.5 CIS cars and available 1980 through 82. Practically the same as the 78 and 79 cars.

M28/21 and M28/22 16v Twin Dizzy were NEVER an option but standard fit on 84 through 86 ROW S2's.

A 1986 S2 is also very special in that it had the 87 S4 suspension and brakes like an 86.5 32v here in the States, Switzerland and Australia.

All 1980 to 1986 S/S2 ROW cars came with front and rear spoiler unless it was removed by an option delete.

Archer you are so right - when I grow up I want to run a "big" successful business like 928 Motorsports and be an ******* like Carl - sorry I offended you.

It takes a big man to continually slander the competition. There must be a lot of pressure being a big fish in a tiny pond.

Careful here. Gretchen is playing favorites and you could get an "infraction" for even talking about "you know who".....I did.

FBIII Luckily I do not compete with 928 MS - maybe two or three parts only and then I am way cheaper.
Just can't stand the bull**** info passed out.

The rings on the 4.7l are a main issue. Last time I looked... Well, I shouldn't have looked. At the prices. I once bought a set of 4.5L pistons and rings new in boxes (2002 or so) for 100 dollars. There are now similar boxes on ebay for 1200. Thats better than real investments.

Like Greg said on the the 85 BW trans - I am going to start hoarding again.
