It that the Hella radiator Design911 have for sale?
I got as far as you with the parts numbers, found a note on a German Hella site that listed Behr in brackets behind the Hella part number. However since mine was OK when I took it out a year ago I have held off on the parts hoarding.
Take lot's photos/notes and let us know how it works out.

It must have been the recent heat wave in the UK that's resulted in Mike's and Oliver's radiators suffering from heat stroke. You can now add me to the list of casualties. I have to assume the steady stream of coolant from under the right hand side of the radiator means it's past its sell by date.
The "check coolant level" warning appeared a few days ago. It was a challenge to undo the coolant tank cap. It was fused to the tank. Disturbingly, the cap was caked in coolant gunk and the rubber gasket totally distorted and rotten. Several of the hose attachment points showed signs of coloured coolant leaks. I've noticed the topic of the coolant tank cap has come up on a regular basis and strong recommendations made to replace it at any sign of deterioration. Guess I learnt the hard way.
I have to assume the cap had sealed the tank so completely that the pressure tried every available possibility to escape and eventually blew a hole in the radiator. Or is that a simplistic explanation?
As far as a new radiator is concerned, Porsche and Euro Car Parts quote around £1,500 + VAT. Design 911 UK quote £525 + VAT. Although it's the Hella version which I gather is the same as the original. Paul Anderson will do a second hand version for £210 + VAT.
Apparently this warning has been repeated ad infinitum in the past, but needs to be repeated for dimwits like me.

Glyn, given the gunk this may not be a good idea for you, but the leak at the right-side of the radiator is the common failure point. The plastic end tank fatigues there where its exposed to the hot coolant from the engine, and eventually cracks causing a leak.
You can replace just the end-tank, as alluded to earlier in this thread - there's a good write-up of how to do it without breaking the aluminium tabs on the core in the process somewhere here on rennlist, possibly by jhowell from memory.
While the end-tank is off, you can also get the core rodded to clear any blockages and built-up calcification.
End tanks are available new from the various 928 vendors who sponsor this site.

Hi it was from Design911 and the brand was Hella. I just looked at their website and it is no longer there. Perhaps give them a phone.
Alternatively I don't know if you could contact Hella directly. They have a parts catalogue on their website.

Design911 quoted me £525 + VAT on Friday. But they don't have them in stock, so you know what that means.
I looked into Hilton's suggestion of replacing the tank, but nobody seems to supply them.
Paul Anderson says he's got a couple of second hand rads that are in good condition and cheap enough to be tempting as a temporary fix.
ukcarcooling tell me they're considering manufacturing the tanks out of brass and took my phone number to keep me posted.
Bit of a dilemma, eh?

Glyn,
1500 quid for an 'effing radiator?- what a disgrace! Sometimes I think about returning to the UK and then I see wake up calls like this.
Seriously it's criminal. I thought US$500 was a lot.
Regards
Fred

Yeah, Fred, what do you do?
I hope you read my earlier "Despair" thread. We're all clinically insane!
I see Mike's PSD has packed up. Been there, done that too. That was silly money like the rad.
Oh well, stoically we struggle on.

BTW you'll be amazed at the amount of crap that hides down the back of the radiator. Leaves, cigarette ends, etc. A regular spring clean down the back of there wouldn't be a bad idea.
