Default Radiator Replacement?

Is there a guide for replacing the radiator on an S4? I've had a look through the cooling section of the factory manuals and don't see anything. Also is there any parts apart from the radiator that I will have to change at the same time. I'm in a bit of a hurry to get the car back up and running now and don't want to find I need to order a bunch of other stuff half way through.

My understanding is as follows:
Remove the screws holding the fans.
Remove the fans from the slot in the radiator(I don't think you have to fully remove them)
Remove the coolant
Remove the upper and lower coolant hoses
Remove the oil cooler connections
Remove the two Allen screws at the top
Slide the radiator out
Reuse the rubber bumpers at the bottom
New O rings for the oil hoses
New coolant hoses
Fill up with your favorite coolant and distiller water.

Yea its fairly easy btw, the hardest part for me was to get my car on ramps, I had lift the car with 2 jacks, 1 on each side so it can have enough clearance to drive it up..lol

Here it is on the ramps

Heres the rad out but I broke the upper hose since it was brittle,

Since idw to pay 100 bucks, I bought hydraulic hoses and ima take the crimps out from those 2 hoses and put clamps instead, ill do that tomorrow

Thanks, seems easy enough. Can I just confirm which o-rings need replaced on the parts diagram for the water cooling system I can only see 999 701 651 40 and the quantity says "x" whatever that means?

Are you replacing it with a new, stock Behr radiator?

I haven't bought anything yet. The one I'm looking at is Hella. It's £399 + 20% VAT which is about $750 dollars. The genuine Porsche one is triple that.

You might want to reconsider buying a Behr instead. Perhaps Roger has one at 928srus.com
I had an aftermarket one. Didn't last 7 years.

Or I think 928 international has some old stock left at a great price.

The problem is that I am in the UK. I'll get hefty postage and import duty charges plus it would take a few weeks. I need to get the leak fixed before my camping trip around the west coast of Scotland in two weeks time.

Both 928 International and 928srus ship back across the pond regularly. More than a few Brits find that the cost savings are substantial compared to OPC even with the shipping and tax, and the service is pretty darn quick. A phone call to them will give you the options.

That is the wrong way to remove that cooling line fitting !!!
You risk damaging the internal cooler, so if anyone else is reading this use a proper 32mm and 27mm and do not remove the hose couplers from the rad.

With the recent price hike of the Behr radiators, it does seem that a cheapo aftermarket replacement ($275 - $375 range) has surfaced with the part numbers:

19-01768-AN
19-01769-AN
19-01770-AN
19-01771-AN
19-01772-AN
19-01773-AN
19-01775-AN

Looks like ones ending in an even digit are for "automatic transmission" and ones ending in an odd digit are for "manual transmission". I wasn't able to find out any more detail than that. YMMV.

You might want to reconsider buying a Behr instead
I have been checking a few websites and it seems that Behr and Hella may be pretty much the same thing. A lot of sites have products listed as Behr/Hella. I spoke to the parts guy and he said they were basically the same. Looking at their websites they are both German firms and both claim to have a strategic partnership with each other.

As for buying parts from the US, I have done on a few occasions. I have a porken tensioner (yet to install), a set of the lift bars and a few other bits. Always been happy with the service/prices. In this instance I don't think I'm going to beat £399 that I was quoted earlier and I need it quickly.

The part number is
Code: 92810604203/1
Brand: HELLA (No. 8MK376711551)

which I think is correct for a 1990 S4 Auto

Just for reference you can use the radiator from an auto in a manual car, you just don't have any lines going to the transmission cooler in the right end tank.
