All,
I'm having some trouble lately and can't get a break on MY87. During the weekend I going to have my AC recharge. While opening the hood the plastic handle assembly latch broke. Now I'm unable to open the hood. I've pretty much tried everything to pull the cable but it won't release. I've search the forum but can find the answer. Can someone direct how to open my hood? Any help welcome.
Thanks in advance.

My sons 85 had this same issue when we first got it. If you can grasp the end of the cable you can pull it firmly towards the seat and it will pop up. You may use a set of small vise grips if you cannot get a firm grasp on it.
good luck.
good luck.

get a piece of cardboard lay it in front of the front bumper,
and get a drop light,
wear glasses ,
and find the underside of the hood latch,
reach up and push the arm,
this will open the hood

That happen to me back when I had a bra on my car (loooong time a go). The problem I had was that the hood was too tight because I didn't adjust the latch to compensate for the bra.
I also pulled on the plastic handle and broke the housing. To get the hood opened, I asked someone to push down on the badge while I pulled on the cable. Since the pressure was off the latch (bar inside the spring), it allowed the release mechanism to engage...and I was able to open it.
Let me know if this works...I'm right next to you in Westridge.

You can adjust the latch tension? Cool, how? I've got a bra on there for my summer travels and it is a little tight, but it doesn't seem like the release handle is in danger of breaking. Still I'd better adjust it.

Under the hood, you'll see a large spring with a metal rod inside it. The base of the rod (close to the hood) will have a large nut. Loosen the nut (pull the spring down to get access to it).
At the tip of the rod, you'll see a slot for a flat blade screw driver. Turn the rod to add or reduce the length. Once you've got the right amount of clearance for the bra, tighten the nut back up to keep the rod from moving.
Hope this helps...

I have good news I finally got the hood open using a chanellock to stop the cable from moving while pulling the lever. It appears there alot of tension on the latch lever. Is there any adjustment that I can make?

no ajdustment for the spring tension, but make sure to lube the cable. Mine was broken when I got my car and the replacement broke again in short order. I lubed the cable and haven't had it brake in around 4 years now.
