Porsche has produced 928's with 924 headlamp so you could use the Carrera GTS style ones also on a 928.
Thank you 928cs, I did not know that. will invest time looking into it.
Wanted to add that i will be deleting the power door windows and central locking, will install sliding lexan as 924 Carrera GTS as well as trimming the center console as the 924 GTS, If someone could post an interior pic of the 924 Carrera GTS please do.

Well a miserable hour and 12 more pounds later, entire inner roof panel is out. 33+12= 45lbs. total weight savings by deleting the sunroof. well worth the time. Added back in 3.5 lbs. by welding up roof so 40 pounds saved, and serious headroom now.

Had to order some auto body tools to shrink the stretched sunroof panel on passenger side (see pic), somehow lost mine. Made me nuts looking for them last night..

See you all soon, and i appreciate your 928 knowledge so keep ideas coming. Taking Kids to an amusement park for 3 days..
Matt

It just isn't a 928 without the layback headlights!

I like that you posted the GTR Cup car pics, still thinking about the headlamps, rectangular like a 924 Carrera would work well but this is even better received my new auto body tools from Eastwood, got home a little while ago.
Need to get that roof done(in and out)and get onto the hood and fenders..

Anyone have a non sunroof headliner for sale?

I like this yellow specimen. While in general I think 928's should be left alone, this one is nice. And I keep following your 928rs progress to see how it turns out. Enjoy!

Thanks Buddy,
I believe the yellow GTR is a factory effort that should have not been so short lived.

4.0 hours: Sun Roof Delete Finish;
1Fill panel seam entirely with weld
2 Grind welds and re weld until no light comes through.
4 Clean up (more grinding) of the inner roof panel delete job
and prepped for paint.

Had to re weld again to be sure in some (see pic) areas at the topside some more grinding then more hammering for the least amount of filler to be used
on roof. About done..need to spend a couple more hrs..
Seats will not be used or they'd be out..
Hood is next.

That little roller coaster at Knoebel's is punishing! Did you do the ski lift to the top of the mountain?

You're right it's a back buster. No didn't do that ski lift this time. How was Cape Cod? Post a pic, include Cayenne in you want, great Porsche.
No one commented on the Gulf blue Knobel's kiddie car..

Back to head lamps Shawn; I think if i do something like a 924 Carrera it would make the car seem too custom and hurt the project.
I should stick with the concept of what Porsche may have done in '83 if they decided to build a true RS model. I will just lighten the lift mechanism neatly.
A mistake i think i may hide are the hatch lighten holes, that is a RSR touch not RS. I may hide the holes with painted 3M wrap.

Did some reading about the '70s 2.8 RSRs;
Porsche went in and seam welded all suspension pick up points with those (not with the RS though) Porsche also welded the strut brace in place (those early RSRs have true coil overs not torsion front suspension) so i looked at these areas on my 928, not finding anything that looks like it needs any added strengthening by seam welding on the 928, it almost seems over built.
Any suggestions regarding this RSR practice is appreciated.
As a note, torsion bar front suspended 911s up to the later 964 and 993s (with coil overs) do not really benefit from strut braces, see a lot of them on these 911s though.

That orange 928 looks weird as hell...

Porsche never campaigned the 928, so there's no real precedent for headlight treatment.

The 944 Cup cars kept their original headlights, didn't they?

As far as 911s (which are the inspiration for the layback 928 headlights), I recall that Porsche used 944-style popups and fixed lights placed within the nose below the bumper line. Or just taped them and went for it.

Nice work on lightweight headlamps and hot engine air compartment venting.

George, I will start the hood louver install soon, I looked at your webpage. If you have any more recent thoughts on the best placement please advise. My intent is to lower intake temp., spider gets very hot as you know.
Would locating the louvers more to the center of hood and slightly behind the intake 'spider' have a cooling effect on the intake tubes or draw more hot air around them in your opinion? Anyone else's opinion on this is welcome.

Shawn, I thought of the same in regards to the low 935 round driving lights located in the valence and completely smoothing out fenders..
But I think it is best to keep the stock set up as you do. I think i can lighten it by a pound or so..will see.
I don't want this car to look too radical, idea is a 'what if an RS was built' scenario. The Daytona lightweight kept the factory headlamps, that will be the precedent here for my MY'83. Speaking of the Daytona Lightweight, the hood venting was very pronounced, hard to tell if it was a direct fresh air intake or engine venting or both..
Installing insulated intake suction hoses will also be done.
