The enjoyment I get out of watching Matt's project is seeing how many times and in how many places can one ask the question, 'what would Porsche have done in building a 928RS?' The detail of making wooden covers and then replicating the partially translucent black finish found on the CE covers is exactly the kind of thought (and tribute/hat-tip to Porsche thinking) that sets the project apart.

Makes me want to buy all those coffee table books of 904/908/911R/2.7RS/RSR/Clubsport/RSA/9XX cars and pore over pictures for additional inspiration.

That means a lot ^^ coming from both of you. I second the coffee table books!
I've seen how nice your cars are and how obviously talented both of YOU are.
The 928 group are the GREAT Porsche Mechanics IMHO.

I have been thinking about the '74 Carrera RS 3.0 and it's PORSCHE script on it's hood instead of the crest.

It's got to look like Steve McQueen could step out of it.

That may be a nice touch up front.

Packing, will be unplugged for a week..

I look forward to your help with graphic design decisions when i return.

Wow, Matt. That last picture of the spoiler with the RS logo really shows the great contouring you have achieved.
Good luck,
Dave

While you're gone Matt, we'll be here coming up with more ways to reduce weight.

I continue to love your project and updates!

Thanks Dave, I figured it deserved the RS finally. Coming up with details you will appreciate. I can't wait to see your SC project finished

Beautiful car.
Beautiful project.
It is indeed a one of a kind.
Hope to have the chance some day to see it and maybe sit in it!

Congrats Matt.

I am somewhat baffled by this, and by the angry email I got last week Wednesday in the midst of deadlines. I've been sick since then (five days, still no voice). Looking through the record, Matt sent a nice update on 2/20. I was glad to get it, and he wrote "no need to respond." Then came an update from Matt two months later, on 4/20, followed by an angry email three days later with all caps and all manner of nice things to say about my attitude and professionalism. For the record, yes, I think emails should be responded to quickly. However, I also believe email has created unrealistic expectations in terms of access and timely response in today's day and age—not just for me, but for most people I talk to. Those in high-profile situations have it worst. FWIW, I send roughly 1,100 emails a month with re: to Panorama while receiving some 2,000-3,000/month—so I'm often faced with the decision of doing email full time or producing a magazine. The two shouldn't be at odds, and do go hand in hand, but I've learned that what "is" isn't always what should be.

Thanks for your support of Panorama and PCA in the past, Matt, and I still think your project is very cool. I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Matt,

Interesting 928 articles are always welcome but in my experience are also among the hardest to come by. I did my best to cajole/prod/motivate contributors to find them when I was at Excellence, and will continue to do so while at Panorama. While they were still too few for my liking at Exc, I'll put the number of pages focused on 928s in Exc between 1997 and 2012 up against any magazine. As I told you from the get go, I was ready to assign a top photographer and writer to your piece, and that is no small commitment. But it doesn't happen overnight. Not sure why you felt so much time pressure, but it wasn't from me.

As for me not caring about your next project...please see below! That's my first car, and I've had it for 25 years now. 250,000 miles and just put a six in, finally. When one of my Porsches had to go, my 911 did. So I guess you could say 914s are alright with Panorama—and you may be surprised to know PCA's National President owns one, as does its Executive Director. But don't tell anyone, alright? There may be a mass mutiny...

[QUOTE=FLYVMO;11330540]Matt,

Thanks you Guys^^

Just returned home Sunday,
Always depressing after a nice vacation..
We received 5" of rain in a few hours.
Bit of a mess to return to.

Anyway back to PORSCHE matters,

I have decided to keep adding back in luxury and even the factory
tool kit and limited service spare.

In the past 36 hours i've been cleaning/restoring interior bits and installing.

I made a lite Perlon-covered Jetronics cover and finished the CE Panel in Perlon. Made a simple lite shift bellows bezel which needs no fasteners (interference). Installing the factory 1/4 trims sans speakers and sound deadening as PORSCHE would have. I have to keep the original theme
in mind and resist going racer with this 928 RS study.

It's starting to feel like a Porsche the Earl of Mexborough might like driving.

I'll re-weigh the car the way PORSCHE may have offered a 928 RS, with tools, spare, cigar lighter, optional rear shelf with luggage tie down belts
and more. This is really getting fun now..

I may even find a good dash as the 934 style dash is way to 959 Dakar ralley car for an RS. then the glove box cover could also be re-installed as it is pretty lite. We'll see.

The next big effort will be to carefully modify the factory door cards tonight. I have some cool exterior graphics on order..

I'm the guy with the big nose driving a 1L Kia btw.

And Pete, i didn't send and angry email using all caps, I never do that, ever

because that would imply i was yelling. It's not that important to me.

Welcome home, Matt! If you'd like me to post the email with the all caps, I can—though posting personal correspondence on public forums has never felt right to me.

Color me crazy, but I don't get all this angst.

Seriously: I wish you well on your project.

Thanks Pete and here is the email:

Pete,

I cannot work with you,

I am too busy already to be doing this for YOU!

and to be treated this way is not acceptable or professional.

You obviously have your 'nose out of joint'.

Bye!

Matt

No angst Pete as i said.

You just remember it differently because you were sick.

My apologies and the best of luck to you with your mag!

BTW the 914 project will be a 914 Carrera

No AC in that one either Ron
