Where's that info coming from? I guess the K&N doesn't have this issue - it just lets the crap go through. Seriously, I've done dyno sessions over the years w/o regard to the stock filter age and got the same results within 1 or 2 HP.

In what vendor controlled test was this proven?

Assuming someone drove in a place that dirty, so what. Replace it.

Ive gone way longer than 12k, maybe 30-35k, and have had zero change in dyno readings.

You can use a K&N, thats ok. Maybe your engine has a higher daily requirement of silica than mine does. Feed it.

inspired by this topic i ditched the K&N today (german shepard digs the new chew toy). Put in a mahle. the arrows pointed up with the 'bubble' at the top but thats what is recommended here

I don't remember seeing this criteria in the posting guidelines.

Besides, he may just be referencing the cars w/burgundy interiors....

And...we all know what happens when a vendor posts controlled tests

Euro Trash to be clear the hump in the filter should point to the sky,
disregard the arrows as they are not to be used,
Seems that filters come with the arrows pointing in either direction

right, that's what i meant, on mine the arrows happened to point up towards the hump. thanks to this topic and the air flow theory explained i have it correct.

The KN is the best for HP. anyone want to step up and bet me dinner, ill go through the hassel on my next dyno and put the stock one back in again. (already did it, and it lost 4hp)
the difference in my set up is that ive sealed the air box with RTV so the straps are more tout. as I mentioned in many posts, the stock air box leaks with the KN and doesn't as much with the stock mahle filter. (to the tune of 1/2"Hg difference when sealed.) so, in most cases the KN will not fit right , but when it does , it is a much more free flow filter.

again, if the argument is the fit and better filtering of the stock filter, then yes, correct! if its about power , with a little massaging of the filter to make it fit better, then if you bet against me and my KN you will be buying dinner. any argument there? ...........................didn't think so.

that's like saying, what is more important for breathing, air or oxygen.

torque is part of HP. its that simple. HP tells more of the story! (its torque PLUS something else called RPM)

Acceleration=Power/(mass x velocity)

i put the mahle in there but my housing straps seem stretched out like an old milf i used to go out with. I see the genuine porsche ones (928 110 363 01) are expensive, are these ok to use ?

Agreed, HP tells someone how hard you hit the wall.

Torque, how far you moved it.
