Default Compressor Seal ?

No number available on compressor: 87 924s

I am rebuilding my compressor and have a kit; Nippondenso 10P shaft seal kit SK-753N listed on package; I ordered a few months ago, the invoice called it a SK-753G kit

The kit has an extra O'ring for the original seat but also included a new seat in the kit. The seat if different lacking the extractor lip on seat.
The seal is shorter but seems to have the same ID, do I have the wrong kit or is this compatible?

Some pics of the compressor in question and the replacement seals would be a big help.

An '87 924 has an ear-mount Nippondenso 10P15E compressor. It has a 2-piece spring carbon shaft seal. I don't know what SK-753N is, but SK-753G is the correct seal kit for it, but you will also need the rest of the o-rings which come in kit KT-10PN. Some shaft seal kits contain an extra o-ring and yes, the seat can sometimes be shorter but that should be ok.

I installed it and it is leaking, I have it on the bench pressurized with nitrogen. I reused the old seat with new O'ring and installed the seal with a socket by hand. The circle clip seemed to hold it in place even though the height is shorter. Seems like this has been a problem for me to get anyone of these seals to work on my other compressors.

I thought 80-89 had ND 6E171 and the 10P15 ran from 90-92 followed by the 10PA20C. Going back through other posts and searching online trying to sort this out has confused me more. Nicole has a 10PA20 in her 91. I definitely have a 6E171 in my 89.

Yes, the 928 has the 6E171 from '80-'89 and 10PA20C from '90-'95. We are talking about a 924

Just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention!
This group has the most knowledgeable members on the forum so I sneaked it in
This compressor is the type you can change the seal from the front with out cracking the case, I may have the wrong seal, the numbers I can read are 10P15E on the compressor.

How did the seal installation hold up on the 6E171 you did a while ago?

The seal requires an oil film on the friction face for complete sealing. If you are testing dry/unlubricated with nitrogen, it will leak slightly. Depressurize, and add the oil charge to the compressor. Hold it drive end down, and rotate it a few times to distribute the oil. Repressurize and recheck for leaks. You can turn the compressor and rotate it around to move the oil through to the shaft seal area until it holds pressure. Drain all the oil out that you can, and put another oil charge in it just before installation, so only new dry/uncontaminated oil is in the system.

Hmm, I was under the impression that the 924's had the early 10P15 with the 2-piece carbon seal. If it is the later 10P15, you will need a lip seal like this. You will also need the tool that slips the seal onto the shaft. You can try without the tool, but there is a good chance it will leak.

I have had enough found a shop in Lauderdale Polar Air they will reseal, test to 300 Psi and return for $100 not worth the aggravation. I could not locate a seal installer or guide for this model so this is my best option turn around in 2 days.

Received my compressor back vac it down and went to charge it. I only took about 3 oz then stopped. Checked gauges low of 90 high of 20 does this indicate a open expansion valve. I am assuming this is buried under the dash or should I be looking for something else?
