What is this connector for?
Whist lying in the footwell, looking at my master brake cylinder I spotted a random connector that was tucked under the dash, behind the switch that resets the odometer. It was wrapped in tape so I pulled it out to see what it was - see photo:

It looks like it might be the connector into which one of the three dash switches fixes but all three switches on the LHS (as you look at the dash pod) seem to be present and wired at the back?
The rear fog lights don't work but I presumed that was because all the wiring at the rear seems to be disconnected.
Can anyone shed any light for me?
Many thanks, Tim

Not sure I understand. Despite having a Euro car I seem to have this spare connection, as well as a connected foglight switch plus the odometer reset switch!

Tim,
That's right you have all the pod switches even the rear fog that the US doesn't have for the hazard light switch is on the central panel. Stumped as to why you have the extra pod switch ! I keep on forgetting to consider the differences between OB's and S4's, which I am most familiar with.

Left side: Headlights, Front Fogs, Rear Fogs (which only work when fronts are on)
Right side: Rear Demister, Hazard, ignition key.
Standard setup Odo reset before digital dash is under the edge of the pod, like the intensive washer button on the other side.
And yes, I too have a spare connection - I've never bothered to look at the wire colours and work out what it is - but I'm guessing its related to the odo reset (US cars pre-digi-dash have a big chunky odo reset button IIRC?)

On the the older OB's I've seen the hazard button on the central panel. So what would be in its place ?

US cars post digi dash have the reset there too in place of the ROW rear fog switch.
Early cars had rear wiper switch on the pod in the hazzard location of later cars - that was actually a much better location than next to the sunroof switch.
Think about it - does it matter much if you were planning to open the sunroof if you get a window open instead (ahh not so much). But if you plan to wipe the rear windshield and open the sunroof instead - I'd bet that isn't very desirable... Stupid placement, especially given the history of its location...

Well Alan, with all that being said about a dummy switch harness buried in the pod, it is of no consequence to the OP. He has no issues with the function of his pod switch devices, and was only curious. I tried to give him what I was aware of, and I even looked some things too and have learned some with you weighing in. C'est fine.

I have what seems to be the standard set-up, headlights, front and rear fogs on left and rear demister and hazards on right. Odo reset is under dash, which is the same type of button as intensive wash button on other side of dash. The 'spare' connector was tucked up behind the dash just above the dash lights intensity potentiometer. It sounds like it's nothing to worry about and I should just tape it up again, tuck it away and ignore it! Thanks Tim

Sounds like just the man I need around with the amount of electrical gremlins I seem to have :-)
