Door pin switches
I know this has been asked before and I have read a few posts, but my symptoms are a little different. All interior lights work in the manual mode on my 82, but do not function in the door open mode. If it was a wiring issue, would the lights work at all? From what I read, the usual culprit seems to be the pin switches. I didn't see a interior light relay on the 82 fuse chart, so i am assuming a 82 didn't have a light delay function when closing the door. I understand it is better to replace the pin switches for $18 a piece than try to clean a 30 year old switch. Could it be a grounding issue as the doors were off for the repaint two years ago. Also, the central lock doesn't seem to work. I haven't checked the 400 ma fuses yet, but if it was a #21 fuse problem the power windows wouldn't either, correct? That is the only electrical gremlins I have, aside from a couple of burnt bulbs in the pod switches. Thanks!

No - the manually operated switching is mostly independent from the door switched mode...
Yes get new switches - it is also possible someone connected the wires incorrectly at the fixtures... I'd check that... Red wire goes to the direct bulb end - Brown & Brown/White wires to the switched end.

you should disconnect the battery,
then remove every light from its position,
then heat shrink all of the wire ends,
then wash the lamps then install them making sure that are all wired the same way,
NOTE the hatch wires change colors but not function use a volt meter to figure out what wire is hot.
The pin switches are easily cleaned with a pink eraser,
replacing them will usually damage the center pin as they are soldered and the center pin will melt if too much heat is applied.

Yeah - one thing at a time - each issue should have its own thread - else it gets confusing fast.
