Remember the first 928 you laid your eyes on?

Burning Brakes
In the spring of 1978 I had a job pumping gas that the '76 station in Bodega Bay, CA about an hour north of San Francisco and right where Hwy 1 comes back out on the coast.
There was a lady business executive who lived in the area who rolled in one day in a silver on black 928. It just sort of purred in... Got fuel... and purred out. Goodness it looked awesome and sounded so sweet (even for a kid who spent the weekends riding in hopped up '55 Chevy's, 69 Mach I Mustangs, '70 GTO's, and a '73 Plymouth Roadrunner).
I saw her come by several more times in the next several weeks, always rolling by at a cool 45 and just purring along.
Then one Saturday evening late, the car came through town at about 85 and howling. OMG! It was like a beast unleashed...
Later I figured out that while the "wife was away" the "husband liked to play"... He was spanking that sweet 928 and having an incredible time. I'll never forget the sound of that wound up V8 as it streaked around the corner and vanished into the night...
And hence, 32 years later I know own one...

It was 1978 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario - someone was visiting a neighbour across the street, in a green 928.
I remember being in awe of the smooth lines and especially how the tail lights were integrated into the rear bumper.

Late 1978 at the South Florida Auto Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Always read about them in C&D and R&T, but hadn't seen one in person yet. Traveled to the show because Mario Andretti was making an autograph appearance fresh off his F1 World Championship.
Couldn't sit in the car because it was cordoned off in "Millionaires Row"!

Risky Business, told my dad, one day I will own one, now I'm on my third one
I think the first one I saw in person was at my high school in 1985, someone's dad was picking them up in a new '85. Don't remember anything about it. First one I actually sat in was James Morrison's '88 at Texas World Speedway in about 1999, and the first one I ever drove was my GT in 2006.

Somewhere around 1978 I was going to work on Route 44 heading up Avon mountain in Connecticut when a grey one went by in the opposite direction. They were really rare at that time.
