1980 and nine came in on a trailer and I got to drive all of them. My favorite, a white 5 spd. Ended up being my first Porsche car. Really miss that car, but nothing I can do about it. Went back to Germany

The first Porsche I ever sat in then drove was a 928 of OB vintage (dont recall year). Found the car in the local auto trader and arranged for a test drive. Turns out the seller and I knew each other from way back when I was a motorcycle racer. The car was repainted black from gold and that didnt sit right so I looked for another.
2nd Porsche I ever drove was a week later and it was the S4 I now own.......12 years ago. Ive driven many 928s since and lusted after a 5 speed GTS.........the GTS I have now is the one I test drove in Montreal last year and bought it without hesitation

I don't have my 928 Owners Club membership list in front of me... but if you are an OC member you can have an entire thread within the Members Car Profiles section to tell us all about it and frankly I'd love to put your story in one of the up coming editions of the News Letter, but I'd like to put it there first and then after that publishes have you post it anywhere else you like...
Join the 928 Owners Club my friends! www.928oc.org! Not to replace Rennlist, but as an adjunct. I am on both forums regularly. Great info in both places!

Glad you guys like the car. It's definitely the car love of my life.
@ James--I'm a member of 928OC. The story is not that long nor great, but maybe somewhat unique. I'll run it by you once I have the pic I'm looking for next summer.

My interest in 928s and the brand in general actually came from a game - Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed.
Needless to say, the first time I actually saw a 928 in person was about five or six years ago at Road America for the Brian Redman vintage car races. I think it was an S4 in black with a cork/tan interior. The rear AC stuck out in my mind for some reason. By that time I was so enamored with the car I knew I needed one.
My first drive in one wasn't until I bought one last year though :P

I had a '75 914 in college and drove it back and forth from L.A. to Oregon many times a year. I loved the sporty feel but in time the lack of top end power and creature comforts got old. After college I worked in San Diego and my GF in LA, so we drove back and forth at least once a week. We both had 914s at that point and, again, it got old. So I spotted a 928 on a used car lot in on PCH in Marina Del Rey (or something like that, might have been Manhatten Beach), and pulled in. I remember it as pumpkin colored O.B. with a cork interior, but it was probably to color of Leon. Hell, it might have been Leon. The salesman was a slime but let me go for a drive. Still remember breathing in the 928 smell for the first time, the solid sound of the door closing, the sound of the motor roaring to life, the torque as it pulled away from the curb in 3rd (oops) without a hiccup. That was it. Screwed for life.
Did not get close to buying that car as the slimeball salesman thought my lovely 914 was worth 1/4 of what I thought it was, but it was only a matter of time. Still want a tan OB with cork someday.

I was in and out of Porsche dealerships for years, but I wanted a 911, effects of a 5 minute ride in a fast one, and never noticed the 928. Maybe none were on the used car side of the dealerships, or I was too focused. 911 was selling crazy high during the early 80's, so I ended up buying a 73 914 2.0L.
One morning EARLY in Sacramento I was stuck on my own until lunch and decided to hit up the local Porsche dealer and try for a test drive in the new 944. First dealer was a toad, but second one gave me a decent test drive including some air time over a small bridge. I was pretty jazzed about the 944 by the time we pulled back into the dealership, but before I left I saw this white 928 sitting next to the showroom. I wasn't quite dazzled, but it looked very nice, and I couldn't believe it when the salesman told me they were asking $29k for it. I kept thinking, wow, $29k for a real Porsche.
Wife didn't like the 944, seat, legs, and steering wheel had no comfortable arrangement for her, so it was off the table. I talked to one of my friends about the 928 I had seen and great prices, and he bought one right away. That just would not do, me in a 914, so I spent a about 6 months and tracked one down for myself an 81 AT fresh off lease and bought it.

That is exactly what makes them great I think... No air bag, digital dash, parcel shelf, and for the auto cars a MUCH snappier feel as that lower rear end gear helps a TON! But yea, VERY MUCH like the '87/88 cars. Emerald REALLY likes the '89's was the real point. He has like 4 of them, so I was surprised one LEFT AZ is all I was getting at.

I think it must have been 1979. I was in Brisbane, Australia on my first overseas trip from New Zealand. I went to a car show and in the foreground was a red 356 and further awar- well away from spectator grubby hands, was a grey / silver 928. With those awesome almost horizontal headlights. I was smitten. Recently I checked in my photo album and I still have that motor show photo, the 928 is spoiler less so I guess 1979?
35 years later and I still look in awe at the 928 styling. But I must admit I'm no longer precious about my 928 (am about my 356!) and I let anyone drive it.. It is just a car - but a bloody special one.
