Default Rear main seal question. Should I try again? (DONE)

I’m getting ready to put my flywheel back on but am a bit concerned about how my rms looks. The seal went in without much issue. I’m wondering if the lip will move back into place when the engine is running and warms up or if I should get another seal and try again. Let me know what you think.

It's a little hard to see in the picture, but the outer lip of the seal isn't quite touching the crankshaft from about the 6 o-clock to 8 o-clock positions. I'm thinking (hoping) the seal lip will reposition itself when the engine is run and warms up.

The outter seal is only a wiper to help prevent dirt from getting in. It doesnt actually seal anything, that is the function of the inner (spring assisted) wiper.

When in doubt, re do it, it is too hard to re do when eng is installed.
And u will be really pissed off, if it leaks.

Before you re do it, you may want to try oiling up a small tie wrap and gently running it around the seal (between the seal and crank) and see if it improves the fit, it is most likely folded over.
You did have it well lubed when installing right? Some use engine oil, I use assembly lube.

I know when mine leaked on "The Onion" I got real lucky and was able to re-seat it by only having to remove the lower bell.

Take your time get it right, as you won't want to drive the car w/ a leaking rear main seal.

Hope is not a plan, it is not correct. Much easier to re do now than later. Since you cannot see the inner seal, how do you know it is ok?

when i did mine on the stand, i did not press it in far enough... leaked after install... had to take the clutch back out!!! UGH

New seal ordered. I’d be pretty pissed at myself if I put this together and it leaked due to something I can easily fix now.

I did lube it the last time. I believe I only lubed the crankshaft though. I’ll lube it and the inner seal surface this time.

Doesn't the rear main seal need to be pushed all the way in unlike the front main seal and the cam seals that need to be flush with the face??????

Look at post number 3, look at the wear groove on the crank from the old main seal. I think the seal needs to be pushed farther in compared to what you have pictured above... Can some expert please confirm?
